By day, she’s front row in her SoulCycle class. By night, she’s swapping out her Liquiteria for margs on the rocks. And, by now, we’ve all heard about the "Basic Bitch." While some wholeheartedly embrace the term (bros
included), others cringe at the thought of being a walking cliché.
We've never been a big fan of the descriptor — and the sexist shaming that goes along with it — but we have to admit it's a cultural fad
that doesn't seem to be letting go anytime soon. (At least not before Pumpkin Spice Lattes fall off the menu.)
However, if there’s someone who can change our perception of what basic means, it’s NYC conceptual artist Angela Campos. In collaboration with Memphis Workshop
, Campos has created the ultimate "Basic Bitch Gift Guide" to shed a more positive light on the phenomenon.
Spoiler: UGGs do make an appearance. But, no matter your personal footwear preference, there’s no way you won’t swoon for the guide's colorful and irreverent photos.
Among the stereotypical trademarks are oversized watches and perfectly groomed manis, plus more subtly humorous details such as YOLO tattoos and what looks like a lighter from the infamous nightclub Pacha, just to name a few. Though this holiday gift guide is unfortunately faux, we're sure you'd be able to track down these "basic" picks should you be so inspired. Click ahead to see them all.
