But Washington keeps giving us fresh, fun, completely awesome reasons to love these four quadrants — whether it's the new restaurants and bars opening their doors, the cleverly decked locals who are perpetually catching our eye on the street, or the perfectly seasoned mix of boutiques and chain stores that keep our wish-lists very long, indeed. Sigh. Luckily, autumn is the perfect time to cozy up to the city you call home. Vintage Finds
There are killer stashes of vintage-y goodness scattered around the city and in the 'burbs. Whether you're pining after ripped-up concert tees or frothy '50s confections, we can point you to enough curated boutiques and cavernous thrift stores to fill your closet without emptying your wallet. Your first stop: Dr. K's Vintage on U Street, which is packed with some of the raddest rock-'n'-roll gear we've ever seen.

Music District
Our underground music scene is thriving, and there's always a great local, national or international act to catch if you find yourself with a free night. Want a dreamy electro-pop soundtrack for your wanderings through museums? We got that. Prefer your tunes raw, with enough feedback to make your ears ring (in a good way)? Got that, too. The hometown of Dischord Records still hosts ripe-for-picking record shops, venues that range from gritty to swank, and some super-cool musicians, including folk-meets-bossa-nova duo Birdlips.

First Fashion
The First Lady gives us major style inspiration. No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, you can't argue with Michelle Obama's knack for pairing high-end designer goods with mass-market items. Anyone who can jump from Alexander McQueen to J.Crew without missing a beat gets our vote.

Fresh Eats
If you're into eating healthy, you'll be hard-pressed not to find something delish at one of the dozens of farmer's markets in the area. Pick up some locally grown goodies, snag a tasty artisan cheese, and wash it all down with a great bottle of vino from a Virginia winery — trust us, your date will be impressed.

Culture Club
Washingtonians heart the arts. And it shows. From the Washington Ballet's OMG-inducing performance of The Great Gatsby at the Kennedy Center to the knockout 30 Americans exhibition at the Corcoran Gallery of Art, there's plenty to see and do this month to keep you feeling cultured — or at least arm you with just enough small-talk fodder for your next cocktail party.

Gastro Goodies
We love our food — and our drinks. A slew of new restaurants are slated to open in the next few months, at a pace that feels like one new grub spot per day. Craving something different? Soon you'll be able to dig into meatballs by celeb chef Michel Richard or that elusive perfect Vietnamese sandwich. And the beer? Oh, the beer. Some of our fave bars offer tastings of the hoppy stuff, while others are working locally made craft brews into their recipes. We're psyched for all of the above.

Shop Talk
This city is peppered with adorable indie boutiques that carry local designers we love as well as bigger brands we can't help but covet, and we guarantee you'll find one that suits your shopping tastes. The part that warms our hearts? The amazing local folks who run these spots. Just pay a quick visit to Nana in Mount Pleasant, new menswear haven Streets of Georgetown, or rock-'n'-roll standby Redeem, if you don't believe us.

Get On the Chain Gang
Lately, we're getting some serious love from the fashion gods. A bevy of major chains have set their sights on our fair city recently — think Madewell, AllSaints, Rag & Bone, Billy Reid and more. But what does it all mean, you ask? Well, it's not just that your credit card is in for a workout — it's a surefire sign that the nation's capital is securing its place as a major destination for style-savvy shoppers.

Take a Load Off
Work hard, play hard...relax hard? Maybe it doesn't have the same ring to it, but we kick back in style at some of the best spas in town, and the pampering you'll get at these swanky spots is top-notch. From W Hotel's Bliss Spa and the Spa at the Mandarin Oriental to the Swedish massages at Hela Spa and the Chocolate Sun spray tans (trust us, they're amazing) at Nectar Skin Bar, Washingtonians are well aware of the fact that feeling good is the key to looking good.
