Vegetarian-Friendly Beauty Brands You Should Know About

Continuing in the theme of keeping track of obscure honorary months, did you know that October is Vegetarian Awareness Month? Just a few years ago, you'd be hard-pressed to find animal-conscious products in beauty aisles, but today, vegetarian- and vegan-friendly offerings are regularly popping up on shelves.
We love our furry friends as much as the next team of beauty junkies (even if we're not all vegetarians), which is why we've sorted through the best cruelty-free brands on the market. So, whether you're just looking for a few items or want a complete makeup-bag (and medicine-cabinet) overhaul, this list is a great place to start.
Ahead, check out the best conscientious cosmetics out there.

Priti NYC
Priti NYC, at the forefront of eco-conscious nail polishes, aims to support organic farmers and decrease the chemicals depleting the Earth, one manicure at a time. Its products are free of toluene, dibutyl phthalate, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, or camphor — all dangerous ingredients that typically creep up in other polishes.

Although the brand itself isn't entirely vegan-friendly, Tarte has a separate line for animal lovers, which includes some of our personal faves, like Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara and the Amazonian Clay Collector's Shadow Palette.

Flo + Theo
Based in Queens, NY, indie brand Flo + Theo was founded by two sisters. They've created a collection of simple — yet effective — bar soaps, body butters, and lip balms, which are all-natural and animal-friendly.

While Lush is 100% vegetarian, it's only about 80% vegan, since it uses ingredients like milk, honey, lanolin, and eggs. If you'd rather avoid those, look for the "V" (for vegan) label.

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics
OCC has something of a cult following, and with good reason. The brand has been internationally certified by PETA — which almost makes us feel less guilty about spending good chunks of our paychecks on the amazing Lip Tars.
