This Season's Best Non-Leather Boots & Bags

When the weather turns brisk and breezy, I'm all about the boots. And, the bag to complement the boots. Yet the leather, suede, fur, and other animal materials so prevalent in the fall fashion edit, just don't do it for me. I don't want to sacrifice style though based on my ethical leanings, and fortunately, I don't have to.
I've recently discovered a crop of compassionate designers that have set out to rock our world with completely cruelty-free offerings that look every bit as stunning as their counterparts. Forget everything you thought about vegan fashion — hemp fanny packs and tie-dyed broomstick skirts get no mention here — and prepare for a parade of supple, luxurious pieces that are cool without the cruel.

The Lace-Up
Nicora Johns Sinclair Boot in Black: With fast-fashion taking over the way we shop, it’s easy to forget that shoemaking is an art form. Enter third-generation celebrity shoemaker, Stephanie Nicora, whose model good looks and penchant for job creation and eco-friendly fashion make her line the go-to for cruelty-free fashionistas. The Artist Bootie
Cri de Coeur x Arden Wohl Bootie in Brown: These boots will take you into fall like a beautiful '60s-inspired security blanket. NYC it girl, Arden Wohl, teamed up with CDC to create a line of shoes that add interest to everyday ensembles. In fact, one of my favorite ways to wear these is with a pair of skinnies and a white button-down.

The Hip Pouch
Hipsters for Sisters Bag Black Flat Waist Bag: Sure, I promised no fanny packs, but this is a very different breed. Whether you’re walking the dog or dashing for the bus, this slim pouch made from non-toxic materials looks awesome when paired with jeans and a blazer, and chic when carried strapless as a clutch.

The Riding Boot
Melissa Riding Special in Black: Just a whiff of a jelly shoe reminds me of middle school, but these boots are decidedly grown up. What’s more? They pack a surprise. Remove the calf portion to reveal super classic ankle boots. At the risk of sounding like an infomercial, it’s 2-boots-in-1, and I’m pretty pumped about that.

Angela & Roi Palette Red Crossbody: So classic you’d swear Ali MacGraw wore this in Love Story! This bag is not only animal-friendly, but a portion of sales is donated to AIDS fighters (other colors benefit other charities).
