This Celeb Is Running A Marathon For A Moving Reason

Cancer has played a major role in Uzo Aduba’s life. As Women’s Health explains, the Orange Is The New Black actress’ aunt passed away from leukemia, her cousin was lost to breast cancer (and another aunt is currently battling it), and in the fall she lost a woman whom she describes as a “second mom.”

In an effort to remember and celebrate her loved ones, Aduba partnered with the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to run the Boston Marathon this coming Monday, April 20. "What I also want to carry with me is all of these people were such lights — bright, bright lights that were dimmed far too early," she says.

This will be Aduba’s second marathon, and she seems up to the challenge. "26.2 miles to me feels like a hill compared to the mountain that...my friends and family have fought and are fighting every day… I have seen these women who are intelligent, smart, fighting, strong, convicted, focused...who gave the fight of their life, for their life, every single day — to live and to be with their families, to be with their kids, to be with us, to be with me." Aduba explains.
