It's Makeup Mayhem At Urban Decay's Tricked-Out Beauty Bureau!

[UPDATE: This story was originally published on April 27.]
Back in the pre-Urban Decay days, wearing purple nail polish was akin to announcing you were joining the circus (doesn't that make you nail-art junkies shudder?). When founder Wende Zomnir unleashed her alternative attitude toward painting ladies in '96,
she made major makeup waves, and her nouveau bag of tricks gave the old-boys network of blah beiges and pinks a run for their money. Today, these product provocateurs make innovation their number one priority, and are finding ways to shock and awe our regular old regimens on the daily.

With punchy palettes and names like Half-Baked, Punch Drunk, and F-Bomb, it's no surprise that UD's office space is off-its-rocker rad (swearing like a sailor is clearly encouraged), and the girls inside sport mohawks and loud lips. Boasting tall, collaged walls, an Alice In Wonderland-themed bathroom, and cheeky pieces everywhere—these Orange County digs are truly out of this world. Check out how these rogues roll in to their crazy HQ each day and we bet you'll be tempted to send them your resume, stat!

Lauren Jacobson, Regulatory Coordinator, and Mindy, Account Manager of Adorableness

What is your role at the company?
“My main focus is on seasonal international registration, which allows Urban Decay to distribute our products to multiple countries outside the U.S.”

What's the best part of working at UD?
“Considering most people would classify my position to be on the "nerdy" side, I'm thankful that our office surroundings are anything but boring. It's clear from the moment you walk in the door that corporate headquarters is a direct reflection of the brand; an explosion of creativity, edginess and glamour unlike any office I've ever worked in. Not to mention the ability to bring your dog to work certainly sweetens the deal!”

What are your favorite beauty products of all time?
“I couldn’t live without our Eyeshadow Primer Potion – from weddings to beach adventures to outdoor music festivals, no matter the shade, my eyeshadow always remains intact and looking freshly applied. I also love Chloé perfume (I received some at our company holiday raffle), Elnett Satin Hair Spray by L'Oreal Paris, and Murad Clarifying Cleanser.”

James Jeans, Vince Tank, Naven Blazer, CEEK Turquoise Slab Ring, Steve Madden Wedges, Vintage Earrings, Urban Decay Surreal Skin Mineral Makeup, Original Eyeshadow Primer Potion, Naked2 Palette, Perversion Eye Pencil, 24/7 Concealer pencil in NSA.

What's the best part of working at UD?
Lauren: “I love seeing what everyone wears into the office everyday. We have some seriously stylish girls (and guys) at UD!”

Tanya: “Working with girls who are so up on the music/fashion scene, talking outfits and nail color and everything in-between!”

What's your sneakiest makeup trick?
“If I over-pluck my eyebrows, using Brow Box only in areas where needed fills in the blank spots perfectly.”

On Lauren: Vintage Denim Vest, CocoRosie T-Shirt, Her Grandma's turquoise bracelet, Forever 21 Skirt, Cathy Jean Boots

On Tanya: Forever 21 Demin Top, Free People Jeans, Sam Edelman r Fringe boots, House of Harlow 1960/J Crew/Forever 21Jewelry, Eyeglasses by Warby Parker

Brooke Pederson, Product Development Manager, and Mini, Manager of the Cute Department

You have such a coveted job, giving names to all of the fun products. Can you describe the process behind any that you've personally birthed?
“Junkshow – this was a term we used when I worked at a skate company to describe any type of scene or person that was just a wreck! It’s funny to see it on a shade label now, and hear people internally using it.

Also, the Black Palette: I pulled a bunch of dark rocker stuff because the compact looked like a rock album, and all the shades had a black undertone. Amy and Wende laughed at some of the stuff I came up with because I went a little too deep like 'Wizard, Castle, Hesh, Batwing' — these ones clearly didn’t make the cut!”

Sparkle and Fade Dress, Forever 21 Blazer, Bauble Bar Bracelet, Eyeshadow Primer Potion, Skimp e/s, and 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner for the ultimate cat eye! Instaflare False Lashes, Big Fatty Mascara, Afterglow Blush in Crush, Super Saturated Lip Pencil in Lovechild with Rashad Pocket Rocket on top.

Kathrine Reyes, Junior Designer – Visual Merchandising

What is your role at the company?
“I'm primarily in charge of designing the presentation of products in stores internationally.”

What's the best part of working at UD?
“The monthly red velvet birthday cake celebration. The celebration is always festive because no matter how old you are, you need to be sung to when it's your birthday!”

What's your sneakiest makeup trick?
“Learn how to be picky when you're on a budget. I find reliable everyday products for cheap such as Garnier Fructis Style Surf Hair Texture Paste ($4) to add spunk to my summer ‘do. Cutting cost on products like these allows me splurge on other beauty items that will outlast the season, such as my favorite perfume, The One by Dolce & Gabbana.”

Obey Tank Tops, Vintage Pencil Skirt and Bangle, Deena & Ozzy studded belt, Micheal Kors Earrings, Ivanka Trump Wedges, 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Zero, ESPP original; Blackout, MIA, and Chase Eyeshadows, Skyscraper Mascara, Baked Bronzer in Gilded

The UD mood board is eye-poppingly bright! When we visited, someone had pulled a prank, and put up a steamy pic of a man in a banana hammock. It remained on the board.

Wende Zomnir, Founder/Creative Director

What are your favorite beauty products of all time?
"From my own line, I love our Eyeshadow Primer Potion, Flash Eyeshadow, Cannonball Waterproof Mascara, and Lip Junkie Lip Gloss in Jilted.

I love Lansinoh Nursing Mothers Nipple Cream. I haven't been a nursing mother in a while, but someone gave me a tube of this when I had my first son. To be honest, I didn't think it was that great of a product for nursing, but I started putting it on my lips at night and it was amazing! Then I tried it on my cuticles, elbows, chapped skin... even on the little cracks I get on my hands after a day of snowboarding in the cold. I use it all the time now on my children, and even my husband has a tube in his medicine cabinet to use as dry lip therapy after he comes in from surfing or snowboarding.

I'm also a fan of MyChelle Perfect C Serum and Notox Polypeptide Serum, Clarisonic Face & Body Brush, Murad Body Firming Cream, Bumble & bumble Curl Conscious Defining Creme, and Coola Sport Sunscreen SPF 45."

It’s the best thing ever to clean up a manicure in a pinch! And, Bumble and bumble Surf Spray to play up the natural wave in my hair.”

What's your sneakiest makeup trick?
Amy: “It may sound strange, but I love to use my finger to get a smudgy, smoky eye, and I put on the pencil first before eyeshadow top to make it pop.”

Shannon Rawlins, Purchasing Assistant, and Lyndsey Zwart, Product Development Coordinator

What's your sneakiest makeup trick?
Shannon: “A dab of white eyeliner and/or eye shadow goes a long way to fill in all the natural shadows on my face. I apply to the corners of my eyes, and right under my bottom lip to brighten everything up!”

What's the best part of working at UD?
Shannon: “It's the relaxed and unique dog-friendly environment for sure. You're free to be an individual here, and experiment with clothing choices and make-up trends without feeling self-conscious or judged.”

Lyndsey: “It has to be the holiday greeting card of 2010 where we threw cake at Wende, then the rest of the employees in the kitchen – the biggest food fight I've ever seen!”
