If you’re anything like us, you're ready to release a flurry of pent-up fun by the time summer comes around. Pool parties, rooftop gatherings, mega music festivals: They all get us in the mood to play with our fashion and makeup. We want a look that kicks some serious ass and — let’s be real — makes us feel kick-ass, too. Is it too much to ask for our cosmetics to give us superhero powers? We’re not asking for mind-bending skills (not that we’d pass them up) — just a surge of confidence and guts, so we can leave our low-key, plain-Jane, last-season selves in the dust.

Our secret weapon is makeup artist Allie Smith. She started with everyday cosmetics and, pow, created four impactful looks that are sure to blow up your Instagram. No special skills or tools required; each look is easy to recreate with a few products from COVERGIRL that are available at any drugstore. And, thanks to her tips, a new look is just a few quick tricks away.

    Electric Eyes
The secret to slaying bright-green eyeshadow? Black liner. After applying your base makeup, draw a thick line of green eye pencil from the inner corner of your eye across to the outer corner. (Don’t obsess about getting it perfect.) Next, sweep liquid black eyeliner directly under your first line and along your upper lashline. The contrast of the two shades makes the green pop big time. Then, amp up your look further with a volumizing mascara, like COVERGIRL The Super Sizer By LashBlast Mascara. Twirl the brush as you apply to fan out lashes and create extra volume with the product's thin wand. Finish the look with a muted, sheer pink lipstick.

    Purple Reign
This graphic, all-over eyeshadow broadcasts don’t-mess-with-me strength. After creating a canvas with foundation and concealer, brush a vibrant-purple eyeshadow (like the one in COVERGIRL Eye Shadow Quads in Va-Va Violets) from your lashline all the way up to your eyebrow. Diffuse the color out with a fluffy eyeshadow brush from the inner corner of your eye toward the end of your brow. (The key here is to keep the color within the natural border of your eye created by your brow.) Then, layer more purple shadow in the middle of your lid for extra impact, and apply black liquid liner.

For a tight line that also makes lashes look fuller, try this trick: Dot the liner right into your lashline, connecting the dots so there are no visible gaps. The finishing touch? Plenty of black mascara.

    Power Pout
Even a bold red lip can benefit from an ombré reboot. To create the two-toned effect, swipe a rich red lipstick, like COVERGIRL Outlast Longwear Lipstick in Red Siren, on your lips, concentrating the color on the outer corners and graduating it toward the center. Then, apply orange lipstick to the center of your lips and over the Cupid’s bow. Ensure the focus stays on your lips by leaving the rest of your face natural.

Now, take a pic and hit the red carpet — a.k.a. your social media feed. With a combo this eye-catching, your “read my lips” message will have genuine impact.

    Fangirl Fierce
Why this turquoise-and-orange combo kills it: Blue and orange are complementary colors. (Yes, there are uses for color theory beyond your high-school art class.) To keep the look from veering into clown territory, clean up any redness or discoloration, so the focus stays on your eyes and lips. Start with one pump of a foundation mixed with a bit of moisturizer, and blend it over your skin with your fingers. The result — serious all-day glow. Finish by patting concealer on any trouble spots.

Now, for your two-punch color. Prime your eyelids with translucent powder, and then trace bright-blue eyeliner, like COVERGIRL Ink It! By Perfect Point Plus in Aquamarine Ink, from the inner to outer corners of your upper lashline. Repeat this step along your lower lashline. Draw your liner a bit beyond the outer corner of your eye, and flick upward so the tip points to the end of your eyebrow. Add mascara, and finish with a serious swipe of orange lipstick.
