Let's be real: You walk on sidewalks instead of awards-show red carpets. You sit in a cubicle instead of a "front row." And, you give presentations instead of tearful thank-you speeches. All those factors aside, we think you should still look as flawless for work and play as the celebs who preen and pose in front of the paps every other week. That’s where we come in.

After two months of awards shows with unforgettable beauty looks — think coral lips, dramatic eyes, and contour with a capital C — we're finally at the end of the season (whew!). And, while it's true that the aforementioned looks were major standouts, there were four tried-and-true crowd favorites we saw on every red carpet without fail. We call them the Big Four — a flawless face, strong brows, defined eyes, and a perfectly painted lip. Seriously, when was the last time you saw caked-on foundation or smudged lipstick on the red carpet?

We sought out celebrity makeup artist Fumiaki Nakagawa for pro tips and tricks, so you can be camera-ready just like the best of 'em — even if the pics being taken of you are just your own selfies. From a subtle contouring technique that'll add dimension without the reality-TV-star vibes to a lipstick-blotting trick that'll make your duck lips totally budge-proof, these insider secrets and COVERGIRL essentials will help you master a red-carpet-ready face on the daily.

    Face Forward
First things first — a flawless face starts with a hydrated base. If you've got time to spare, Nakagawa suggests prepping your skin with a five-minute mask. If you don't, a blend of moisturizer (with SPF!) and primer will help create a smooth and dewy base for foundation.

Start by dabbing foundation on five points of your face: your forehead, cheekbones, nose bridge, and chin. With a large angled brush, blend the foundation in circular motions all over.

Nakagawa prefers this method over using your fingers because it buffs the product into the skin for a perfect, poreless-looking finish.

Then, blend a foundation two shades darker than your natural skin tone with a flat brush from the sides of your forehead to your temples and underneath your cheekbones. This'll give you a realistic and subtle did-you-or-did-you-not contour that's appropriate for a board meeting and happy hour. Here, we used COVERGIRL truBLEND Liquid Makeup in Classic Ivory all over and Golden Beige to contour.

Counter any under-eye circles (work hard, play hard, right?) with concealer, like COVERGIRL + Olay The De-Puffer, from the inner corner all the way to the temples. Blend well by patting — not rubbing — the product onto your skin.

To fake a glow even under the harshest office lights, tap highlighter in a V shape from the browbone to the top of your cheekbones. Don't forget to dab it along the bridge of your nose and right above the Cupid's bow, too.
