4 Perfect Outfits For South Beach's 4 Coolest Foodie Events

Yeah, we're pretty amped about the South Beach Wine & Food Festival, too. Between Food Network celeb-chef stalking and gorging on glorious mini bites from the best restaurants across the country, we've raised out sweet expectations so high, we're entirely oblivious to things like calorie counts. But it's hard to formulate a wardrobe plan of attack if you've never been to the festival (or even if you have)—there are so many activities, and so much…sand! Problem solved: We're telling you when you need to dress to impress, and when it's time to wear something more user-friendly for the tents. Whether it's Rachael Ray's "Burger Bash," beachfront, or the "Best of the Best" at the Fontainebleau, we've rounded up the four best events of SBWFF, and four Perfect Outfits for each!

The Grand Tasting Village is by far the largest event of the festival, with a compound of several tents on the beach. Picture the world’s largest sand picnic. Located literally right next to the ocean waves, when you've finished eating and drinking your way through hundreds of food and booze options, cool off with a dip in crystal clear waters. Bring a post-swimming towel along in your bag, and enjoy napping away the afternoon wine buzz on South Beach sands. The outfit needs to transition from gastronome to beach bunny, so we suggest brightly colored short-shorts, sand-friendly flats...and don’t forget your bikini.

Wine Spectator’s “Best of the Best” at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach pairs wines rated 90+ by the magazine alongside signature dishes from heralded chefs such as David Burke (David Burke Townhouse, NYC), Gabrielle Hamilton (Prune, NYC), and Charles Phan (The Slanted Door, San Francisco), as well as locals like Paula DaSilva (1500 ̊ at Eden Roc) and Joel Huff (Azul). The winemakers will be on hand to answer all vino-related questions, and the restaurants will be breaking out the big food guns for this cocktail party styled-event. There’s actually a solid floor to stand on at “Best of the Best,” which is why you will be in skyscraping heels and a hot mamacita dress. Finally!

From Bobby Flay's Burger Palace to last year’s winner, Michael Symon’s Bspot Burgers, the event promises to be even bigger and better than last year, and in order to celeb-spot properly over the crowded sea of people’s heads, you’ll need some extra height. We recommend leaving the spiked heels at home and going for sturdy wedges, since Burger Bash takes place directly on the beach in a giant tent outside The Ritz-Carlton. You’ll want to wear a cute but comfy, loose and lightweight shirt to cover the slight burger belly undoubtedly accumulated by the evening’s end.

What: Amstel Light Burger Bash presented by Allen Brothers Steaks and Diet Pepsi, hosted by Rachael Ray

When: Friday, Feb 24; 7:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m..

The New York Times Dinner Series Tribute Dinner honors Chef Charlie Trotter and winemaker Piero Antinori this year, and it’s the event to brag about if you happen to be attending (we know you are). Trotter’s namesake restaurant in Chicago has been earning culinary acclaim for 25 years, and Antinori’s family has been working their vineyards in Tuscany and Umbria for 26 generations. This is an elegant affair with top level names at the tables who will be draped in designer labels, so this is the moment for a fashion splurge. Go for an always party appropriate little black dress—with statement lips and a classic two-tone shoulder bag you’ll be the belle of the ball.
