You want a tree this year. A fat, dark-green, happy spruce. There's a slight problem, though: You barely have space for a couch in your living room, let alone a 7-foot needle monster. (Nature hasn't exactly caught on to the whole tiny-house movement just yet.)

Fortunately, there are plenty of trees you can make with minimal effort (and using some items you might already have). We created five totally over-the-top, glittered-and-neon alternatives — from a decorated cactus to a color-blocked take on the classic Charlie Brown branch. The 25th is fast approaching, folks: 'Tis the season to get your conifer replacement up. More importantly, 'tis time to line up all those metallic-wrapped presents underneath.
