Shower Shoes Are Happening, Whether We Want Them Or Not

Oh, Céline, what have you wrought? Ever since the slavishly copied French label sent $910 "furkenstocks" down its spring '13 runway, we've noticed a definite uptick in the ugly-pretty sandal market. The trend is split straight down the middle. On one side, we have the Céline/Isabel Marant-inspired rich-hippie leather slides. On the other, we have straight-up shower shoes, inspired by the Chloé style that raised eyebrows for being, well, $840 gym shoes (that didn't stop them from selling out everywhere, of course).

Sure, these rubber slides are just a designer name away from the legendary Adidas sandals that have protected feet from locker-room floors since time immemorial. But, we can't help but feel some nostalgia for this style. First of all, it's not often that a trendy shoe is this comfortable. Second, they're cool in that throwback '90s/i-D Magazine kind of way — and Kate Moss did make 'em look awfully good back in the day. Third, they're a very low buy-in trend. Despite the three-digit versions currently crowding the shelves, the original and most classic version — the Adidas Adilette — can be had for a mere $25.
