A recent study polling 18- to 25-year-olds on their shopping habits and preferences found that a 68% majority of subjects would much rather shop in stores than online, and that only 20% have ever shopped from flash sale sites like Rue La La or Gilt Groupe. Unsurprisingly, these same youngsters (66% of them) do use the Internet and style or shops-review sites to do research before a purchase (hey, guys!), and will use their social media outlets to "like" a brand, but never to shop through.
The reasons are probably social in nature: Shopping probably feels like more of an opportunity to get together with friends than just a chance at buying something. And going to the mall is really more about all the trend-testing, boy-gawking, Contempo Casuals-ransacking, and Orange-Julius-loitering shenanigans that go along with it (did we just date ourselves?).
