What We Actually Think About These Top-Rated Sephora Buys

One of the best things about shopping for makeup online is that you have the entire internet to crowdsource from about a product. You can search YouTube videos to get recommendations, peep the reviews on your favorite e-retailer, and check in with your favorite editors to see what they actually think about something before you click "add to cart." There's a wealth of information out there — so much so that you don't actually have to schlep to a makeup counter to test-drive innovations you're curious about.

With that in mind, we decided to check in with the top-rated, most popular beauty products from some of our favorite online shops and see how their ratings stacked up to our own. From concealers to settings powders to dry shampoos, click through to get our unfiltered opinions about all the scores you guys love to buy.

"This unassuming orange bottle was sitting on my bathroom shelf for months before I decided to give it a shot. And what the hell was I thinking, waiting so long? In just a few weeks, my face looks brighter, clearer, and softer — with much less-noticeable acne scars (and fewer breakouts, too). This is what it must feel like for people who end up marrying their best friend who was with them all along.

"The sweet scent — which smells like orange-flavored candy — might be a touch cloying to some. But I personally find it really soothing. Just be careful to apply the right amount (one single pump); too much and you veer into sticky territory."

"When you're a beauty editor, trying product after product is the name of the game. I always work to keep an open mind (but it can be trying when the packaging sucks), but as far as I'm convinced, no other dry shampoo will ever touch this one — they can all quit now.

"It's the only one that never leaves my hair feeling dry, powdery, and chalky; instead, it makes it silkier and softer and, yes, I'm usually a skeptic, but this formula's technology actually does clean the buildup, dirt, and odor, rather than just mask. Need proof? This is my hair after letting it dry from a sweaty SoulCycle class, then using the dry shampoo. Magic.

"I do, however, feel like there’s less product inside the can — even compared to others of the same size. I don’t use a ton of the stuff, but I go through it in about three weeks, which isn’t very cost-effective."

Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo, $22, available at Sephora.

"Every beauty guru raves about this powder. Why? Because it really is translucent, so it doesn't leave any white residue behind. I find it is great for general makeup setting, but that being said, it isn't my favorite when it comes to baking."

Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder, $38, available at Sephora.

"This was one of the first foundations that made me actually like foundation. I haven't worn it in years, but I will always remember it fondly — and now, I swear by the stick formula. It's lightweight and provides great coverage, but can easily either be thinned out over just-moisturized skin or built up with a brush.

"The 40 (!) only slightly different shades are a double-edged sword. It takes some work to get your shade nailed down — and it's easy to think you've nailed it, only to find it's actually the wrong undertone — so my advice is to ask for help in the store when finding your perfect match."

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation, $43, available at Sephora.

"The key word here is radiant. This concealer blends with my skin tone without dulling it and covers the mistakes of my past (read: the lack of time I spent taking care of my skin in my early 20's). The wand also makes it easy to apply: no wasted product or sponges to clean. Easy peasy!"

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer, $29, available at Sephora.

"The first time I got my hands on Chanel's Mademoiselle, I was 12 years old. My aunt had accidentally bought the wrong Chanel for my cousin and handed the castoff down to me. Needless to say, it was love at first spritz. 10 years later, I still hang on to this bottle for those nights that deserve a decadent fragrance. It's feminine, fresh, a little rosy, and transports me to France the second I spray it on.

"That being said, it's not exactly a light scent. It's s not something you want to mist on in the office — unless your intention is inducing a coughing fit from your coworkers and desk mates. It’s lovely once settled, but when you first release the fragrance, it can be overwhelming."

Chanel Coco Mademoiselle Eau de Parfum, $94, available at Sephora.

"There are certain duos that will always be iconic: Barack and Michelle, Sonny and Cher, Portia and Ellen. For me, one of those perfect pairings is Luna and Good Genes. Sunday Riley's Power Couple is the only set of products that has magically transformed my skin overnight.

"The mix of Luna's retinol with Good Genes' lactic acid is a heady cocktail that smooths and moisturizes my finicky complexion. I use them together whenever I need to look especially fresh to death the next morning."

Sunday Riley Power Couple Duo: Total Transformation Kit, $85, available at Sephora.
