Tell us a little bit about yourself — where did you get your eye for design?
"My eye for design stemmed from my first job out of college, which was working for a residential homebuilder. I was really drawn to the building process of new homes and the interior design progression."

How long have you lived in this space, and how has it transformed since you moved in?
"I have lived in my condo for over three years. Before I moved in, I immediately fell in love with the black floors and white brick walls. I knew right away that I was not going to touch either of them. Since I moved in, I have added splashes of color through various accessories and accents."

What's your best design tip for the novice decorator?
"The best advice I could give to a novice decorator would be to practice patience with your space. Don’t rush the decorating process, because you will end up buying things that you are not truly in love with. Give yourself time to find that perfect couch or piece of art. Good things come to those that wait!"

Now, let's talk about your personal style — what's a signature "Sara" look?
"I love mixing highs and lows. My signature look would include a bargain find (whether it would be from Marshalls, Nordstrom Rack, or Loehmann’s) paired with an investment piece, like a structured jacket or a statement necklace. Lately, I have also really been into mixing neutrals with gold, white, and black."

Anything you'd never wear, or a trend you'd never try?
"You will never find me wearing ankle socks with strappy sandals. That is one trend that I think was a huge mistake."

What's your favorite part of your home? Can be design-related, a particular built-in, some architectural?

"My favorite part of my home is the balcony. In D.C. it is rare to have such a large balcony, so I like taking full advantage of it. With a full-size grill and comfortable seating space, it’s the perfect spot to entertain guests or just enjoy my morning coffee."

What are your favorite pieces in your closet right now?
"My favorite piece in my closet right now would have to be my Lovers and Friends Gracie dress. I loved the dress so much that I bought it in both blue and white. It’s the perfect combo of flattering and comfortable."

Describe your dream home (and dream wardrobe!)
"My dream home would have a huge open kitchen, especially since I love to cook and entertain. My bedroom would also have to have an enormous walk-in closet where everything would be organized by color and style. Living in a condo, I find myself storing seasonal pieces, so it would be nice to have one big room where you could view your entire wardrobe, no matter what season it is."

Are you happy with your space as-is, or is it something that's always evolving?
"My space is always evolving. I love finding new treasures, but the biggest struggle is making sure that I do not clutter my space. If one new thing comes, something old has to go."

What are you coveting right now for your home, and your closet?
"I am still looking for the perfect piece of art to put above my fireplace. I really want it to be a piece that I love and has some history to it. Since it’s the first thing you will see when you walk in, it’s really important for me to take my time with it. For now, I have confetti streamers to keep that wall space occupied."
