Flash Tattoos — those metallic temporary tats often spotted on Hamptonites, bloggers, and Beyoncé — originally captured our hearts because they look like jewelry, but aren't. So, when we caught wind of Flash Tat knockoffs that are made of real gold and silver launching today on My Jewel Candy, our gut reaction was that they're kind of a ridiculous idea.
We're all for spending a little extra cash on real jewelry, with the belief that we'll have it forever — but, these aren't even designed to last (see: "temporary"). So, excuse us if we're not excited to invest in gold or silver that's a) not the real thing, and b) going to wash off in a couple of days. Granted, at $20 to $38, the prices are pretty reasonable, but that's still a little more than competitors like Flash Tattoos.
With that said, we have been known to spend a pretty penny on beauty products made with precious metals (lookin' at you, Tatcha serum with 24-karat-gold flakes). But, investing in skin care feels more justifiable than splurging on one-time ink.
The brand says the benefit of the new body art is that you know exactly what you're putting on your body. But, although they're not made of a fancy-schmancy metal, Flash Tattoos are non-toxic and safe — they meet U.S. and international regulatory requirements. So... can someone please tell us the point of these "real" temp tattoos?
