Are You 'That Girl' On Pinterest?

The ever-eloquent Emma Stone once explained Pinterest this way: “It’s basically like a mood board online, and you can build your dream life…and then, your life is sad because it doesn’t look like that.”

For those of us who are in deep on Pinterest, truer words have never been spoken. But it doesn’t stop there. Oh, no. We heavy users know that, among the huddled masses (huddled over our laptops, that is), distinct factions emerge — squads, if you will. You’ve no doubt spotted some of their acolytes: There are the slow-cooker-recipe people, the inspirational-quote addicts, the secret wedding planners... And they all fall into one of five categories.

The Dream Weaver
You’re not just organizing mood boards, you’re curating a lifestyle. So what if you’ll never buy that $14 designer-collab chocolate bar? The colors are #onbrand — plus it would look stellar in your hypothetical gifting closet.

To be fair, the textbook dream weaver would keep her boards private — but your 6 million minions (ahem, followers) don't seem to mind a bit.

The Hack Master
You are the modern-day lady MacGyver, at least online. Let the record show: This role does not at all require you to DIY, craft, hack, bake, or build anything…ever. You just have to spend an unreasonable amount of time thinking about all the ways dip-dying your wooden spoons, or decanting your mouthwash, or finally making overnight quinoa pudding for work, would improve your quality of life.

You can log off any time you like — but you can never leave.

The Lost Tumblr Girl
If your boards are filled with misty A-frame mountain cabins and have names like // M U S E S //, you may be suffering from platform displacement.

Here’s an easy check: Are you wearing kneesocks with no pants right now? Thought so. Stop stressing over whether that Mario Testino photo of Kate Moss belongs on // S K I N // or // C O L O R L E S S //, and go find your people in the land of endless scroll.

The Girl Scout Aesthete
So you have a wedding board, but you don’t have a partner. You have a baby board full of cute mobiles and pictures of pregnant Gisele. No biggie. Your home boards are broken down by potential geographic locations, and then by room. You’re. Just. Well. Prepared.

Sound familiar? You’re a planner, and Pinterest was made for you. Go forth and hypothesize.

The Escape Artist
Infinite allées of moss-covered trees and English estates you need to be the seventh earl of Gryffindor to set foot on fill your feed. You’ve got boards dedicated exclusively to Delft tile and cenotes. And if you pin people, they're at least Kennedy-adjacent. Honestly, why would you keep track of one-pot casserole recipes when you can click your mouse three times and say: It's just a sweet, sweet fantasy, baby.
