Penelope And Coco Shoe Designers Share Their Week's Worth Of Outfits

Like yin and yang, or a black and white cookie, the two ladies behind Penelope and Coco, L.A.’s most exciting new shoe line, are a study in opposites attracting. While Marisa Spinella and Arielle Vavasseur co-own this amazing line of oxfords, boots, and heavenly heels, the former is responsible for the creative direction of the collections, while the latter takes on the task of business development. That’s not just a divide-and-conquer strategy for business—their company is based on the idea that they have alter-style-egos, and their personal looks play off each other brilliantly. So, we asked these two L.A. ladies to let us tag along for a week of work and play, and we made out like bandits with some seriously pitch-perfect outfit snaps.

We’re always running around town playing a million different roles a day, which requires comfy—but not frumpy—outfits!

Marisa (left): I’m wearing a Joyrich (my fave L.A. shop) cropped sweater and an American Apparel button-up paired with Levi’s cut-offs and Penelope and Coco's Edie booties. They always add a wow-factor to a less-exciting ensemble!

Arielle (right): I love my Penelope and Coco Cooper Oxfords because they’re so comfortable, and compliment my casual outfits! Alexander Wang is my favorite for simple and refined basics. This sheer, sleeveless dress is so versatile—I can wear it open or closed as a dress!

We both live for transitional outfits that take us from day to night in minutes!

Marisa (right): I’m usually pretty casual during the day while I’m working at the office. My go-to outfit is my LF skinny jeans and L’Agence T-shirt. Running out for dinner or drinks, I just throw on my Penelope and Coco Kinsley wedges and my Haute Hippie fur vest and I’m good to go!

Arielle (left): I love Opening Ceremony and this dress is a perfect example why. I think this feminine silhouette paired with my Penelope and Coco flat, studded Willow boots is the ultimate pairing for an event that requires a little more than my usual cut-offs!

Whether our schedule is filled with lunch meetings, coffee dates, or store appointments, we both love adding textures and prints to spice up our sometimes black and white ensembles!

Marisa (right): I’m obsessed with hats and head accessories. I’ve been living in this Pins and Needles hat from Urban Outfitters. And this Chloe sweater covered in bows is my favorite item to throw on for a little extra texture! I rounded out the look with American Apparel sheer knee-highs and my Penelope and Coco Quincy patent wedges—they definitely give my look a little sex appeal!

Arielle (left): I love this sheer blouse from American Apparel. I think it’s the perfect alternative to a casual T-shirt! I’m wearing it with a Joyrich leopard print cardigan that is so comfy and cute, plus my Penelope and Coco Black pony/mesh Sophia Oxford. They are definitely a step up from a plain black loafer. After all, my motto is chic and comfortable.

Marisa (right): I love anything that flows and is easy to toss on during the summer, like this Opening Ceremony dress. The colors and the way it moves are perfection. If I’m going to an event, I’ll throw on a pair of pumps or wedges like these Penelope and Coco Kinsley wedges—they’re the best.

Arielle (left): I love to show the versatility of our boots and oxfords. When I head to stores or press meetings, I like to stay away from the expected, so I paired this perfect white structured blazer with Penelope and Coco’s Willow boots and black harem pants from T by Alexander Wang.
