15 Ways To Do New York City Like An Olsen Twin

Brunch at Freemans, cocktails at The Beatrice Inn, Saturday shopping trips to Barneys: The Olsen twins, they're just like us...that is, if we were lucky enough to wear The Row head-to-toe while running two majorly successful clothing labels.

We've witnessed quite the style — and career — evolution since Mary-Kate and Ashley first came into the public eye at just nine months old. And while tons of things have changed — job direction, romantic relationships, lots and lots of apartments — one thing has stayed very much the same: Their love for New York City.

To honor our favorite style stars on their 29th birthday, we teamed up with Mary-Kate and Ashley expert Jenn Camp, the brains behind cult blog Olsens Anonymous, to uncover the pair's most quintessential New York moments. If you find yourself wanting to wear a black caftan this weekend (despite the 90-degree weather), we'll know we celebrated their birthday just right.

It may be summertime, but New York's sticky weather can't stop Mary-Kate and Ashley from rocking their signature all-black looks as they leave creative space Industria Studios — with cups of coffee in hand, naturally.

When it comes to Ashley's selection of outerwear, bigger is always better. While shopping on Madison Avenue with a friend, the designer rocks an oversized camel coat (the jacket of the century), black skinny jeans, and a red crocodile handbag by The Row.

The Olsen way to tackle corporate attire. The two don corresponding, sleek navy-and-black pants-blazer looks while leaving an office building downtown, proving that it is possible to make workwear chic — you just have to know how to accessorize.

Spotted out and about on her 27th birthday, Mary-Kate transforms her birthday suit into the ultimate "off-duty" look: a top-knot, a killer navy bag by The Row, and athletic-style slip-ons (which her sis was also seen wearing the same day).

With a neighborhood like Tribeca to call home, it's no surprise Mary-Kate and Ashley are rarely spotted in other parts of the city. Here, the latter sports a layered navy outfit (do you see that The Row bag!?) while heading into her abode, most likely coming from one of the pair's favorite local eateries, Nobu or Locanda Verde.

Wet hair, don't care. Ashley makes the fresh-out-of-the-shower look super-sophisticated in an oversized menswear blazer, semi-loose slacks, loafers, and the most awesome pair of orange Linda Farrow for The Row sunglasses.

We're envious of anyone who can take the New York streets by storm in sky-high heels. Mary-Kate nails it, of course, pairing her black suede Prada platforms with a simple pair of ripped skinny jeans and an oversized black coat. We particularly love the pop of color from her orange Elizabeth and James shades.

Keeping things so, so simple, Ashley parades through downtown Manhattan sporting a black sweater and leggings, a navy crocodile tote bag by The Row, and seriously ugly-cute Birkenstocks. It's casual chic meets complete comfort.

Bringing back the bohemian look, Ashley traverses seasons by pairing her white maxi skirt with a dark-grey leather jacket. She adds a black top and blue purse by The Row, old-school Birkenstocks, tons of gold bangles, and some serious Penny Lane-inspired shades to the mix.

After dining at French hotspot Sant Ambroeus with her sis, Ashley Olsen leaves the restaurant in style: namely, a long blue sweater, grey-wash skinny jeans, and oversized black sunglasses. The standout of her look, though? The throwback white scrunchie that's holding together the perfect low, loose pony.

Leaving her Tribeca apartment, Ashley takes on the fall in a grey blanket coat, skinny jeans, orange Manolo Blahniks (one of her favorite pairs of shoes), and a black The Row bag. Plus, we've never seen anyone who can rock wet hair this good.

This might be a surprising look for Mary-Kate, but we kind of love it. Her loose white button-up pairs perfectly with her skinny jeans, glittery Miu Miu heels, and structured The Row bag as she leaves The Bowery Hotel.

All denim, all the damn time. Ashley is spotted heading out of her apartment in a cool summer look: a chambray shirt, boyfriend jeans, Birkenstocks, and one of those wildly talked-about crocodile backpacks from The Row. We're adding this look to our July-in-New York outfit rotation, STAT.

Where is she going with that giant book of art? Ashley steps out in a very Victorian-esque maxi dress, flat sandals, and a backpack, a favorite style for the fashion designer. Perhaps the tome is for style inspiration?
