Shop It NowThis Guy Dressed Up As His Dead Mom To Scam The Gov't (Awkward...)
We're all about experimenting with fashion and dressing up on occasion (hello New York Fashion Week!), but this guy takes it to a whole new level. Thomas Prusik-Parkin, a Brooklyn resident, has just been sentenced to a minimum of 13 years in prison for dressing up as his dead mother in order to scam the government. Beyond the obvious Norman Bates ref and disgusting factor of the getup, Prusik-Parkin stole over $44,000 from Uncle Sam and went so far as to don a wig, sunglasses, and dress to do so.
Check out the video on the NY Post to get the full affect via a peek of Prusik-Parkin in action on a bank security cam. After watching, we have to agree with Justice DelGiudice: It's kind of "amazing". (NY Post)

Lingerie Saleswoman Says She Was Fired For Being "Too Sexy"
We found out earlier this year what to do with unwanted comments on the street, but what's to be done about body drama in the workplace? One local woman says she was not only called out at the office for her large breasts, but actually fired from her lingerie distribution job for being "too hot." Indeed, 29-year-old Lauren Odes was a production assistant at Native Intimates for a whopping two days before she says she was fired while out shopping for a new, more acceptable outfit (note: she claims the company asked her to buy an ankle-length sweater).
While the word choice involved in this lawsuit is a little bit funny, the situation itself is anything but. We totally get having a company dress code, but the comments and demands Odes professes she had to endure are just plain disgusting. Odes says that before being dismissed, supervisors at the business made her wear a bathrobe to cover up and even told her to tape down her breasts (ow!) to minimize their distracting appearance. Odes is now suing the company for wrongful termination and has hired none other than extra-famous lawyer Gloria Allred to defend her. We guess she forgot that line in Walden to "beware of all enterprises that require new clothes..." (NYDN)

Role Model: Karlie Kloss Raises Over $58,000 For AIDS
Adding to her list of accomplishments that would inspire anyone (or make them jealous, or both), Karlie Kloss raised over $58,000 for AIDS charities at Sunday's AIDS Walk New York. But really, what doesn't this model do? At just 19 (yep, you read that right), Kloss can already claim the titles ballerina, model, style icon, Olympian (just kidding), and, now, she can add philanthropist to the list (on top of being a normal teenager, that is). Marching with fashion BFF Jason Wu and wearing Juicy Couture activewear, Kloss led team Step Forward to charitable victory, with some help from Juicy in the form of a hefty donation. Along with 45,000 other participants, Karlie contributed to the $6,014,822 total raised for over 40 AIDS charities — talk about a model citizen!

Cat Casting Call: United Bamboo Is Looking For America's Next Top Meowdels

Although it seems like puppy love reigns supreme here at R29, the truth is that there are a good handful of us who are wholly devoted to felines. Call us crazy, but we've long been annoyed at the fact that cats are stereotyped as cheezburger addicts or psychopaths who plot our doom while we're at work, whereas dogs are always considered to be "man's best friend" (even though they can't even clean themselves without assistance). We call BS. It happens to be a well-known fact that few animals can pull off designer outfits like kitties, so the fact that United Bamboo looks to them as models is hardly surprising. In our opinion, we're just happy to see them getting the dignity and sartorial respect they've long deserved.
So, if you look at your little Osip Meowndelstam or Purrincess Persephone and see nothing less than the next David Beckham or Gisele, United Bamboo wants them to star in the 2013 edition of their famous Cat Calendar. All you need to do is upload a photo of his or her furry little mug onto the brand's Facebook wall, or tweet it to them with the hashtag #catclub, and they'll take your feline into consideration. In the end, only 12 cats will win the honor of being 2013's It animals, and will be able to participate in the NYC photoshoot on Saturday, June 9. Better start working on that blue steel, we hear the competition is getting fierce.

How One Little (Fendi) Bag Changed Sex And The City Forever
Most of us associate
Sex and the City
with labels, labels, labels — Manolo, Jimmy, Dolce...the list goes on. After the second film (and that infamous $10 million wardrobe), it's easy to forget that the show actually had (relatively) humble beginnings. In Rizzoli's new book, Fendi Baguette, feting the rerelease of six of the Italian house's iconic arm candy (out June 1), Sarah Jessica Parker describes how the little wardrobe department that could became a veritable treasure trove, thanks to one mini handbag. "In the very beginning, [stylist] Patricia Field and her team had to be industrious and creative with a low budget by getting clothes from thrift stores in order to tell interesting fashion stories," Parker writes. "At this time, things were inaccessible and out of reach; Fendi was really the first important design house to loan us items, with the baguette handbag being the first."
Garance Doré And Reed Krakoff Give Us Major Summer Vacay Envy
Perhaps you've experienced bag envy before, but envious of a bag? Yes, it is possible. Especially when this one racks up serious miles in a summer adventure with the blogger, photographer, and lovely French lady Garance Doré. Together with the equally lovely Reed Krakoff Boxer Bag, the two have embarked on an exciting roadtrip together. Partnering with Krakoff, Doré and her sleek, chic carryall make the perfect travel companions, with Doré grabbing snapshots all throughout their journey. “The pictures came naturally as I was living my life," Doré tells WWD. "Montauk on the beach, New York for Fashion Week, Paris with my love (Ed note: Aw)...so many great memories.” The photo collection, Nomad Chic, premieres on the Reed Krakoff site today and the collection of photos read like an inspirational scrapbook for our own summer adventures outside. And, if we're lucky enough, we'll have our own arm candy (we mean the Boxer bag, not Scott Schuman) along for the ride, too. (WWD)

A New September Issue? Mademoiselle Carine Roitfeld Stars In A Documentary
If the September Issue didn't make your top shelf of fashion flicks (next to your guilty pleasure: Clueless), here's a new documentary to compete with Anna Wintour. Her French counterpart, Carine Roitfeld, will be starring in the new film, Mademoiselle C, chronicling the Editor-in-Chief as she launches the first issue of CR Fashion Book this September (hmmm, coincidence?). Shooting is still in progress, but we're already imagining a few hair-raising and high-pressure clips as deadline for the launch of the publication draws near.
Under the direction of Fabien Constant, Roitfeld has been shadowed for the past months (in and out of the office). It's also reported that the film crew has interviewed other big names, such as Tom Ford, Karl Lagerfeld, and Donatella Versace, to speak on the editrix and this upcoming magazine's premiere.
While the big elephant in the room keeps asking if this is just a new version of The September Issue, we're more curious to get the insider's view on Roitfeld's life and the publication we've been eager to read since its initial announcement. You bet we'll keep an ear to the ground, waiting to hear about the film's release date. (NY Mag)

Mini Marc By Marc Tees Celebrate Gay Marriage (And We Love 'Em!)
Bob Dylan was oh-so-right way back when he declared that "the times they are a-changin'." Gone are the days of the nuclear family, and that whole 2.2 children thing is but a piece of history. As support for gay marriage gains even more momentum (thanks, Obama!), Little Marc Jacobs' new, too-cute-for-words tees couldn't have come at a better time. Each $35 shirt is screen-printed with "If Mom says no, ask Mom" or "If Dad says no, ask Dad" messages as a nod to LGBT families. And get this: ALL of the proceeds will be donated to the Human Rights Campaign, the largest civil rights group advocating for LGBT equality. Happy, happy Mother's Day! (That's two, for both moms).

Pups + Accessories! How We Spent One Afternoon
No, we aren't trying to explode the Internet, but we apologize if we do...Hot off the heels of our nail art and food editorial, we were thinking of other winning combinations that made us feel as giddy as a five-year-old on Christmas morning. And when "puppies and accessories" was thrown around during one of our brainstorming sessions, we couldn't help ourselves. Wriggling dogs? Candy-colored accessories? Um, YES? We took a trip to Animal Haven and found a slew of rescue pups (most of whom are still looking for homes — click here to adopt!) to spend some quality camera time with another passel of playthings: bright bags, patterned shoes, and blingy jewelry that were almost (almost!) as much fun as Tulip, Potter, and Pino. Check out who (and what!) we spent an afternoon with — jealous yet?

New York Times To Double Street-Style Scope (Hang In There, Bill!)
More, you say? We have almost-daily updates on street style from The Sartorialist, Street Peeper, and, ahem, Refinery29, but for some people that's just not enough. The New York Times, employer of fashion genius photographer Bill Cunningham is planning to double their street-style scope beyond the usual once a week Sunday Style Section to a biweekly video. Starting this week with Fort Greene, the videos (and accompanying text) will highlight various neighborhoods throughout the city.
On one hand, we obviously can't get enough of street style, and we totally trust Bill & Co. to produce the stunning shots our style requires, but what ever happened to "less is more?" While we're not necessarily complaining, quality is always better than quantity, so we just hope the perfectly curated set we've come to expect doesn't slim as the paper attempts to expand. What do you think? Do you crave more images from the NYT team, or did the once-a-week factor make it even more special? (WWD)

Not-So-Impossible Conversation: Schiaparelli Will Officially Relaunch

In a not-so-coincidental move by the storied fashion house, Schiaparelli has announced today — the morning of the highly anticipated Met Ball — they will be relaunching their company that was closed by Elsa Schiaparelli herself in 1954. With the Met exhibition, Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations, debuting, and all eyes of the fashion world turned to the historic designer, this announcement seems practically serendipitous. According to their press release, Schiaparelli has named model, actress, and French fashion star Farida Khelfa as brand ambassador, plus announced the July opening of the historic Maison Schiaparelli —the designer's Place Vendôme residence in the '30s and '40s — which will serve as an atelier to display a new collection debuting in March. However, with all the buzz surrounding who will be wearing what this evening, don't expect any of the Schiaparelli chatter to die down tomorrow — there's still the all-important and pending announcement of which designer will step in to succeed and continue the Schiaparelli dynasty. We'll all have to sit tight until October to find out, but your predictions are always welcome in the comments below.
