Our Favorite Off-Duty Model Hits The Streets

No, we're not exaggerating when we say Natalie Suarez is our favorite M.O.D. Every time we team up with this professional model and on-point style blogger, we enjoy a little adventure in NYC. Usually, it's just a couple of blocks long, but this time, the beauty behind Natalie Off Duty coaxed us (and our photographer) all the way out to a part of the popular DUMBO neighborhood neither of us had actually seen before.
We mean, we shouldn't be all that surprised. For an L.A. native, Suarez is pretty well-traveled in Manhattan (she's lived in five different apartments since she moved here two years ago). This time around, we got a nice early-morning tour of one of her ex 'hoods along with a few chic looks and a preview of her fall favorites (anchored by fall-appropriate Timberland boots, of course). All in all, a productive day.

"Today, we're taking a walk in DUMBO, Brooklyn, a place I'm so in love with. It's the first place I moved to right when I arrived in NYC over two years ago. I like to think of it as my secret hide-out. I love being so close to the water, overlooking the Manhattan skyline. It's a bit of an industrial yet artist's area. I remember living in a painter's loft while I was here. The cobblestone streets and quirky, colorful buildings covered in art are just so beautiful and serene — there's no place like it.

Right here, I'm walking near Plymouth Street. Just a little bit in the distance, I can see the water and I can hear the sound of the Manhattan Bridge overhead (though it's really quiet at this early hour). I love how I can see the pots of flowers on people's fire escapes, just above an industrial garage. Though it's a bit grungy down here, the local cafes and restaurants have a certain coziness. There's a little bit of everything."

"In the fall, I'm all about taking long walks. Brooklyn has some of the most beautiful side streets and parks. Covered in leaves, New York looks just like it's out of a photo in a book. Personally, walking relaxes and completely clears my mind."

"Now, because I take so many walks, I'm always looking for a good walking shoe (especially in the fall and winter). My favorite is a soft-leather bootie with a rubber sole. For going out, I like a little bit of a block heel, and for the daytime, I'm all about flat, lace-up ankle boots. I'm tall, so I like to stick with the basics."

"Now, these shoes are durable and perfect for everyday wear. They're my go-to fall and winter shoes (especially here on the East Coast where the weather is so unexpectedly crazy). They have the perfect height — not too tall, not too short, but right in the middle — and surprisingly waterproof. Tough, but necessary. And I love how they just elongate my legs while still being comfortable. The leather is so supple! Love that feminine braiding, too. Nice touch.

To go with the neighborhood, I gave this look a clear grunge flavor that's still very put-together. I'm all about loose layers and effortless pieces. Just a white tee, boyfriend jeans, oversize coat, and a plaid shirt loosely tied around my waist does it for me. And with a scarf, it's one of those looks you can wear every single day and still feel chic in without looking overdressed."

"I like to think that my style is a bit rock 'n' roll and a little bohemian, but still has that classic element to it. I like timeless pieces that I can wear over and over again. And I'm definitely that girl on-the-go. Shoes are so, so important to me. I live in boots, and I love to layer whether it be with clothing or accessorizes. If I'm wearing something super-simple, I like to throw on a classic wide-brimmed hat or pile on the rings.

I'm very inspired by the varsity jacket. I'm pretty sure my dad had a similar red-and-white one when he was in school in the '70s. It has a bit of a school-girl vibe, but it's still so classic, especially when paired with a cutout flared minidress, and dressed down with dark-brown lace-up boots."

"Talk about tomboy, these boots are one of my favorites. They've got a great boyish feel and are just so cute! I love the white soles and thick dark-brown leather. They're also perfect walking shoes, because they just form to your feet the more you wear them. I love them with a great minidress and a high pair of socks to give them more of a feminine, cozy vibe. They're even better when I go on city walks, because I love it when they look more beat up. A great distressed boot is a beautiful thing. Don't you love the teal laces?"

"These school courts were completely empty when we stopped by — there was something so gorgeous about that. Every day I try to take a walk like this, just to have some downtime and think. When I'm listening to some music on my headphones, it becomes my Zen time."
