A Classic-Cool Blogger Shows Us Around The Lower Haight

[UPDATE: This story was originally published on February 6, 2012.]
While we unabashedly adore show-stopping garb, there’s something about minimalist, fuss-free fashion that can drive us just as wild. Sure, our bauble-loving hearts desire a daring statement piece or two, but we have a serious soft spot for classic staples, too. And no one does streamlined style (think structured satchels, crisp blouses, and tailored trousers) quite like S.F.’s own resident stylephile, Annabel Ly of Blushing Ambition. Her fun-loving blog is all about gallivanting ‘round town whilst sporting touted brands and chowing down at much-loved eateries. Food and fashion? Sounds like a stellar combo to us. So, we hit up the sleek-and-chic blogger to give us a personal walking tour of her hot Lower Haight ‘hood. That's right, she showed us some of her favorite shops and restos, and, of course, played dress-up all the while.

What are some fashion rules you follow when trekking around S.F.?
"If I know I'll be walking around a lot (and I usually am) I try to dress as comfortably as possible with layers that I can strip off in case I get too hot, or an extra jacket if the fog rolls in. When I'm out at night I'll usually be a lot more dressed up, since we usually take cabs wherever we go."

Where can we spot you on weekends?
"Getting brunch at Bean Bag Cafe or Nopa (depending on how late I get up) then hanging out at Alamo Square if the weather permits."

Why is Bean Bag Cafe your go-to spot?
"I like going in the morning for cheap brunch with friends or by myself to work on my computer and drink coffee. They also have cheap beers there in the afternoon, so once or twice a week I'll go there to watch soccer or basketball. Sometimes I end up going twice a day!"

Where do you shop in the Lower Haight?
"Revolver is my favorite store in the area for clothes, although I wish there was more clothing stores in the area. Luckily Hayes Valley is a short 10-minute walk away! I'm also excited about Rare Device moving to its new location three blocks away from my house."

What's so great about the Lower Haight?
"Everything I need is in one place, plus we're central to everything! I can easily walk to the Mission or take Muni downtown in no time. Plus, I can get to places like the Sunset, Richmond, and Pac Heights in the same amount of time."

What do you love about Revolver?
"I love the interiors! It's super cozy and the employees are always friendly even if you're a chronic window shopper like me. I actually haven't bought anything there yet, but I'm tempted to try out a pair of Tellason jeans!"
