The Two Colors That Make Everyone Who Wears Them Look *~*Better*~*

Whether you live in New York or not, we all know which color (or, rather, anti-color) tends to get held up as the most fashionable. And now, science has backed it up. British T-shirt label Buytshirtsonline.co.uk surveyed 1,000 of its consumers on how they perceive people based on the hue of their clothing. The shade that elicited the most positive associations with confidence, intelligence, and sexiness was black. Red came in as second.

According to the findings, 48% of women and 64% of men preferred black as a "colour of confidence" (it's also a popular preference for date attire). Meanwhile, when it came to perceived intelligence, only 5% of those surveyed felt a smart person would wear pink, which — in our opinion — smacks of sexism. Luckily enough, though, black is a color equally associated with all genders. Additionally, 1% of women and 4% of men prefer to see each other in brown. For real?

Of course, wear what you want, but black — even in the fashion community — is typically thought of as being safe. And though you may not be comfortable with expressing yourself through fashion and using your clothes as a tool of empowerment, bear in mind that even the most adventurous of dressers use black as a color story (see: Karl Lagerfeld, Daphne Guinness, Diane Pernet). This survey may be as revealing as it is underwhelming, but, finally, your personal case for black can be supported by a few colorful infographs. Remember, though: Color or no color, at the end of the day, nothing will make you feel more confident and sexy in what you're wearing than the positivity that goes into the outfit, not the fear of who's going to think you look "good" or not.
