We both put it on our teeth during our recent Sunglass Hut campaign shoot. Everyone thought we were being silly but really we taught them something new!"

What's your mom's nickname for you? And yours for her?

Lily Mandelbaum — cofounder, StyleLikeU; with mom, Elisa Goodkind

What's your mom's strongest quality that you hope you inherited?
"My mom is one of the most empathic people I've ever met. She gives each and every person that she encounters the same depth of attention and genuinely wants to hear their stories. I am always astonished by her ability to care about every single thing I am going through and never diminish my feelings. She'll always drop what she has going on if someone needs her, and I hope that I can be that way with my children one day. She's also a very dedicated and loyal person, especially with her relationship to my dad and in her work. If she commits to something, she goes all the way, and doesn't let roadblocks or a 'grass is always greener' mentality get in her way. She's very eccentric and traditional at the same time, and I like that her eccentricity doesn't make her flaky with her work/relationships. It's very unique and I admire these qualities that she possesses deeply."

What's one piece of your mother's advice that you didn't believe when you were younger, but you do now?
"That you cannot be perfect or please everyone if you want to attain your dreams. Also, that working out and eating healthily are key to feeling good when facing the inevitable stresses."

What's your mom's nickname for you? And yours for her?
"She calls me Boots. I just call her Mom or Mommy — nothing out of the box there."

What's the one thing you haven't been able to steal from your mom's closet yet (but have been trying to!)?
"All of her jewelry. I am on probation from borrowing any of it because I have a track record of losing her things."

Alison Loehnis — president, Net-A-Porter; with mom, Gloria

What's your mom's strongest quality that you hope you inherited?
"Gosh, there are so many. In addition to being a great mom, my mom worked. She managed being a wonderful, caring, nurturing mom and also really rose to the top of her profession. That was always really inspiring to me. Her greatest quality is that she is universally loved."

What's one piece of your mother's advice that you didn't believe when you were younger, but you do now?
"Treat people like you would like to be treated yourself."

What's your mom's nickname for you? And yours for her?
"Bird, for Ali Bird. She was always just Mom, until I had children and now she's GG because my mom is terrific looking and quite youthful looking. And, I think we agreed early on when I had children that she wasn't really Grandma, so she became GG. And her name's Gloria, so it works."

What's the one thing you haven't been able to steal from your mom's closet yet (but have been trying to!)?
"Two things: Shoes — because maddeningly we are not the same size. Not even close. And there is a Tom Ford-era Saint Laurent jacket I have wanted for a very long time that she will not hand over. It's emerald green. I still haven't been able to get it."
