We sort of had a feeling this would happen—next year's Met Ball, the Oscars of the East Coast, will celebrate Alexander McQueen. Concurrently, the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum will unveil Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty (May 4-July 31), an exhibition celebrating the late designer's "extraordinary contributions to fashion." The show will highlight everything from his Central Saint Martins postgraduate collection in '92 to his final runway presentation, which took place posthumously in February of this year. With over 100 pieces on tap, look for iconic signatures like the bumster trouser, the kimono jacket, and the Origami frock coat, broken up into several themes, including "Romantic Nationalism," and "Romantic Gothic." Meanwhile, the big gala (tell us there's a skull theme!) to be held May 2, 2011, will be hosted by a rather interesting celeb selection—François-Henri Pinault and Salma Hayek will fill in the Honorary Chairs spot, while the slated Co-Chairs are Colin Firth, Stella McCartney, and, but of course, Anna Wintour. We can't help but be perplexed by this bizarre lineup, Stella McCartney makes sense, but where's Daphne Guinness, Naomi Campbell, SJP, Kate Moss or maybe someone envelope-pushing like Gareth Pugh. Anyone care to explain?
