Whether you live in La La Land or you've flown in for a weekend, there are a few requisite locales everybody frequents: Runyon Canyon, Sunset Strip, Silver Lake, etc., etc. But, away from the common grounds, you'll find some gems that proffer a respite from the traffic and the tourists: Welcome to West L.A.

The area is a waterfront haven that just begs for breezy frocks, relaxed denim, and a generous dose of serenity. So, on our most recent trip to the coast, we tagged along with L.A. native and style blogger Mara Ferreira of M Loves M for a local's download. And, truly, who better to show us the ropes? Ferreira's blog began as an online journal between her then boyfriend (and now husband) Matthew and herself (hence the name), but has since become a font of inspo for laid-back L.A. living.

Ahead, she takes us to a few of her favorite waterfront spots in the city and shares how she puts together sunny looks to match. Take a tour with us and pick up some styling cues from the sartorial savant, so that you don't scream "tourist" if ever you visit. Advertisement

Morning stroll at Marina del Rey Harbor

Some of my local haunts are...
"Library Ale House for craft beer on tap, Groundwork Coffee on Rose for delicious Mexican coffee, and Moon Juice when I need a little detox."

    My style is...
"Feminine and girly. The things I feel are more 'me' always have soft, delicate details like lace, whimsical prints like florals or polka dots, and retro details like peplum tops, full skirts, and classic button-ups."

    I'm drawn to...
"Colors. I played up the blue themes here with a printed maxi-dress and wide-brim hat from Old Navy. There’s something so retro and classic about a wide-brim sun hat, don't you think?"

One of my newfound hobbies is...
"Boating. There’s something very stimulating yet equally relaxing about being on the open water. You can put all your issues at bay for a few hours and just enjoy the time."

    How I started blogging...
"I was bored at my 9-to-5 law office job and when studying for the LSATS, I started blogging. It helped me figure out what I wanted to do with my life, and now I work in marketing for a shoe brand. It’s been an incredible experience to share this process with my readers, some who have followed me since way back when."
