Ojai
A hop, skip, and a two hour jump from L.A. lies an entirely different mystical world, which may as well be light years away. Cool, calm and collected (the city center is only about a mile-long), the Ojai experience is all about relaxation. Stay at a world-renowned spa (you don't really need to leave), take a hike on a vast array of hiking terrains, and most definitely hit Bart's Books, the largest outdoor vintage store of its kind — there's an entire room solely devoted to art and fashion tomes, and the libros that line the outer walls are a mere 50 cents.

Stay: Ojai Valley Inn And Spa, 905 Country Club Road (at Country Club Drive); 805-646-2420.
Sip: Movino Bar & Gallery, 308 E Ojai Avenue (near North Signal Street); 805-646-1555.
Eat: Bodee's Restaurant, 3304 Maricopa Highway (near Cozy Ojai Road); 805-646-5300.
See: Bart’s Books, 302 W Matlija Street (between Rincon and Canada streets); 805- 646-3755.

Malibu
While there's endless stretches of beach in the 'Bu, that's not all the 27 miles of scenic beauty has to offer. The Country Mart has quickly become one of the most premiere shopping spots in all of L.A. (oh Maxfield, how we love thee), and the Prickly Pear Margarita at Café Habana there is just as punchy as its bright fuschia hue! Take a stroll on the Point Dume trail to whale watch or plan a picture perfect picnic.

Stay: Malibu Beach Inn, 22878 Pacific Coast Highway (near Sweetwater Canyon Drive); 310-456-6444.
Sip: Café Habana Malibu, 3939 Cross Creek Road (at PCH); 310-317-0300.
Eat: The Sunset Restaurant, 6800 Westward Beach Road (near PCH); 310-589-1007.

Of course, this is all after you've taken a large dose of the wild wonders of Mojave Mother Nature in the national park.

This beachside community is upscale artsy, and imaginary house-hunting is always a fun game to play. Watch world class surfers play away at the famed Windandsea beach before noshing on farm-to-table fare at local pride and joy WhiskNLadle.
