1 Girl, 4 Looks: A J.Crew Groupie Plays Dress Up In Palo Alto

Whether we see her nestled behind her desk at Fillmore Street spa International Orange or party-hopping around town, local PR gal Leslie Wang Su always has us doing double-takes thanks to her absolutely killer style. With a closet any lady would covet (she worked for Hermès before moving to S.F., so there are plenty of little orange boxes in there), the Palo Alto resident is an expert in effortless style that is heavy on the bright hues, colorblocking, and J.Crew gear. Want to see how she's styling it all to perfection this spring? We traveled down south to snap the pretty lady (and Goop addict!) playing dress up in her natural habitat. The results in one (or two) words: mega-inspiring.

Describe what you do for International Orange.
"I’m the Retail and Brand Manager for IO, which means I get to dabble in everything that I love: Marketing, buying, writing, merchandising, PR, social media, designing, and working with our talented teams, all in an effort to bring wellness to all."

What were you doing before IO?

"My life has always been centered on brands and life styling (as I like to call it!). Before IO, I was a Brand Consultant at Landor Associates, working with retail and lifestyle clients. Then, I was back east where I spent time at Hermès in merchandising. I also co-founded a socially conscious home and lifestyle online retailer called Histoire."

What natural beauty products and treatments are you head-over-heels for at the moment?
"I’m always swimming in product, thanks to my job. My current short list includes RGB nail polish (in Doll), RMS Beauty Living Luminizer, Kahina Giving Beauty Argan Oil, Rodin Luxury Hair Oil, and In Fiore Soleil Fleur Before-Sun Treatment, a power-packed antioxidant potion. As for treatments, I’m obsessed with our new Acupuncture Restorative Facial at IO. It’s every non-Botox girl’s dream for aging gracefully."

How would you describe your style?
"My style is classic with a twist and depends on my mood. I like mixed-and-matched casual elegance with a fresh, modern feel. But most of all, it must be easy and comfortable — this girl is active and likes to breathe! If it’s J.Crew, it’s probably right up my alley!"

What's your philosophy when it comes to accessorizing?
"Mindful. Sometimes too much is just right and simple is not enough."

Do you have any style icons or folks who inspire you?
"
Anyone who exudes a natural, put-together ease and healthy glow. Down-to-earth pretty, but not in an overdone, perfect way. Fashion- and fitness-lovers. People who inspire me most are those who overcome challenges to embrace life to the fullest. Gywneth Paltrow, Zoe Saldana, Liu Wen, Kate Bosworth, Olivia Palermo, my grandma (stylish at 86!), and my lil' sis, Emily, who always injects animal print into my wardrobe. And, can I say it? Jenna Lyons."

If you could book a full spa day at IO, what treatments would you book?
"I'd book what I like to call the 'IO triple threat': yoga, massage, and a facial. To start, I'd greet the day with sun salutations with Allie or Lindsay in the yoga studio. Then a steam before a 90-minute IO Signature Massage with an acupuncture add-on with Ilya. To finish, it’s a 75-minute Deep Cleanse Facial with Jennifer. Not only are these treatments divine and dubbed 'IO Signatures' (for a reason!), but Ilya and Jennifer are also expert healers in their own right."

We know you're a cleanse fiend. Which ones do you love the most?
"Hands down, San Francisco’s very own CAN CAN Cleanse, which I do seasonally just to reset my system. I’ve tried them all, and CAN CAN delivers the best-tasting, wholesome, and organic ingredients for a healthy detox. The juices also come in these adorable mason jars that are enviro-friendly!"

What sites and glossies do you read to get inspired?
"For health and wellness: The Chalkboard Mag, Sous Style, Goop.com (yes! I do love my Gwynnie fix), and The Times' Well Blog. For fashion, I like The Coveteur, Vogue, Glitter Guide, Wit + Delight, 770 Behind the Line (J.Crew's blog), 9-to-5 Chic, T Mag, Atlantic-Pacific, and of course R29 S.F. for my daily fix for local goodness!"

If you could fill your closet with only three designers, who would they be?
"
J.Crew, J.Crew, J.Crew! Okay, seriously. J.Crew, Peter Som, and Loeffler Randall. In varying proportions, but in that order."

Okay, by now we can see that you're a J.Crew addict (us, too!). Why do you love the label so much?
"Actually, I prefer the term 'J.Crew collector!' Truth be told, my J.Crew roots are deep. I’ve been wearing the label since I was 14, growing up in West Virginia. In fact, I still remember ordering my first item from the J.Crew catalog (hold the phone!): A men’s crewneck hunter-green pocket tee. I’ve worn it so much there are holes! I love the label for its intelligence, timelessness, and that it doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s fun and easy to re-integrate season after season!"

What do you love about Palo Alto?
"The heat! After living in the city for four years, we thought it was finally time to live in the sun. On any given day, coming home to temperatures 10-degrees warmer than the city and clear skies gives me great happiness and energy."

What are your must-hit spots in P.A.?

"Definitely Fraiche. The Oreo frozen yogurt is out of this world! Homma’s Brown Rice Sushi, a tasty roll from the father and son brown-rice sushi-making duo always hits the spot. The Sunday farmers’ market on California Avenue. And the Stanford Dish, a habitat conservation project turned hike. On clear days, you can see across the bay and beyond."
