We never realized just how sneaky Lauren Conrad was — with her hair that is. We were simultaneously mystified and captivated by the extra-loose, wandering braid she wore on a recent Chelsea Lately appearance. The deconstructed plait was gorgeous, but we just could not figure out how she had created that haphazard pattern. Our DVR got a workout from all the pausing we were doing trying to figure it out.
Her stylist, Kristin Ess, must have sensed our confusion, because she recently posted a short tutorial on Lauren's website, The Beauty Department, that details exactly how she did it. The stealthy secret is that she braided one of the strands, prior to braiding the whole thing. This breaks up the braid, giving it that messy, undone, how-the-hell-did-she-do-that appearance.
