Kjaer Weis Is Like The Yohji Yamamoto Of Mascara

Like 30 Rock, Arcade Fire, and brunch, mascara seems universally adored by everyone except me — that is, until three hours ago. I just tried mascara made by Kjaer Weis — the chic organic line founded by New York makeup artist Kirsten Kjaer Weis — and, it literally opened my eyes.  Kjaer Weis mascara is made mostly from organic ingredients (99.8%, so the creator says) and it sweeps on glossy and black, with no under-eye flakes and zero end-of-lash clumps. The short, straight brush — it reminds me of a luxe GUM Go-Between — delivers a look that’s more expertly dyed than Jenner-ified. Better yet, in a bold, eco-genius move, the small, silver tube holds just a three-month supply — the supposed average shelf life of mascara before it starts to crawl with eye-cooties. When you’re out, you simply buy a recycled-plastic refill ($28) and drop it in the tube.  Kjaer Weis is like the Yohji Yamamoto of mascara: minimalist in execution, beautifully made from majestic materials, and understood by a discerning crowd.
