Today marks the much-anticipated launch of
xoJane
, Jane Pratt's newest endeavor into publishing after her two print-babies Sassy and Jane shuttered several years ago. For her inaugural column, Jane does what she did in her Letter from the Editor in every issue in her previous magazines, and just delved straight into TMI territory. What does she share? A waxing trip (where she spots Project Runway celebrity and Marie Claire editor Nina Garcia) that turns into a heartfelt chat with an employee about Jane's past work, which then somehow devolves into eavesdropping, and name-dropping, and revelations of emotional abuse, and plans for plastic surgery, which all ultimately feels more like an angsty, insecure teenager's diary than an accomplished 40-something's re-entry into the media world. If you lived for Sassy and Jane like we did in the '90s, this column is probably going to elicit a strange sort of revelation: Has the Jane Pratt world regressed in maturity, or have we just grown up and moved on?
