Plain and simple, a cashmere sweater is a seasonal must-have. It's crazy soft, cozier than a college sweatshirt, keeps you toasty, and looks quite amazing when layered into your typical wardrobe — even if that just means jeans and a T-shirt. But, frankly, it's hard not to go into price-tag shell shock while shopping around for a quality sweater that won't be pilled to pieces by the time the season is through. It was from this very dilemma that Ivory Row was created.
Launched this week, this new e-commerce offers direct-to-consumer cashmere, eliminating the brick-and-mortar step and becoming the ultimate connection between you and some of the finest yarn makers in Italy. In short, Ciao bella! has never sounded sweeter.
Behind Ivory Row and its premiere collection of cozy, cashmere pullovers are friends Grace Chang and Pierre Kim, who not only understand design but also the true luxury behind our seasonal staple. "It takes a single cashmere goat about FOUR years to produce enough cashmere for ONE sweater," Chang says. "The actual cashmere is a collection of superfine fibers shed by Cashmere goats living in the plateaus surrounding the Gobi Desert."
Chang also says that by cutting out the middle man, Ivory Row is able to offer "luxury cashmere at a not-so-luxury price." Specifically, we're talking $175 for a basic crew neck and up to $275 for a more detailed, ribbed style. And, in this case, you might even be getting more than you're paying for, as the designer claims that this collection of classic styles are made to last for a lifetime. (When treated properly, of course. And, yes, you can find that info right on Ivory Row's site.)
