It's hard to forget the gorgeous, pale yellow coat dress that the FLOTUS wore on Inauguration Day back in 2008. The sheath was the perfect combination of classic and modern, blending power and restraint brilliantly. And now, Isabel Toledo, the award-winning designer behind the frock, is coming to the District for a one-night-only interview and book signing.
Her new tome, Roots of Style (illustrated by her husband, artist Ruben Toledo, natch), is an intimate look into her life as a designer, as well as the inspiration behind her work. She'll hold court at the Corcoran, inscribing copies of the fashion bible and sitting down for a chat with Pulitzer Prize-winning fashion critic, Robin Givhan.
We can't wait to hear the stylish theories these two cook up in the course of their conversation. If you're feeling that same flutter of excitement, grab your tickets here, and be prepared to take notes — any designer with the First Lady's seal of approval is bound to have savvy style advice in spades.
