We love the moment when we get to let our winter-ravaged hair down from underneath our wool hats. Once it's out though, it needs some attention. We headed straight to Maxine, and consulted with stylist Rivkah Lyles to find out what's hot for hair in Chicago—right now. Read about our dish with Rivkah below, and tweet this story around the Twittersphere. Tag @refinery29 in your tweet, and one of our lovely readers will win a $100 gift card to Maxine!

Our hair needs help! What should we ask for at Maxine this spring?

"This season is all about sexy, aggressive color and soft, feminine texture.
Ombré gives an edgy slant to your hair color, trading in the natural girl-next-door beauty of traditional balyage for rocker girl-chic. We're also seeing a lot of Chicago women opting to grow their bangs out to wear a middle part with cheek-slimming layers. This is easier to manage than bangs!"

Where does Chicago stand on short vs. long at the moment?
"Short hair has never been sexier. Confident Chicago women are wearing their hair super short in the back and showing off their natural hairline with long side swept bangs. Slicing in color keeps the overall look feminine and chic. It reminds us of Michelle Williams at the Oscars."

What winter did to our hair was just unkind. Any words of wisdom?
"Chicago winters can leave your hair ravaged. Essence Absolue by Shu Uemura can save it. The elixir is intensely nutritive and it is easily absorbed into your hair. It will balance your moisture level. Put it in after you towel dry, but before you blow dry, and you can also use it on dry hair. It gives you tons of softness and smells amazing."
