Welcome to the Jungle
was a pretty appropriate theme song for the last night's L'Uomo Vogue party. Held at the John Varvatos store on Bowery (which is housed in the the old CBGB), the former iconic rock space was more packed than the front row at Marc Jacobs. Fashion publicists started dropping tweets in the early afternoon as word got out that Axl Rose and Co. were making an impromptu performance. What we thought was insider knowledge quickly became the worst-kept secret in New York, and we nearly gave up when we saw the mob scene that packed the Bowery. Inside we sipped a tequila (or five) with Angela Lindvall, Mick Rock, and Kevin Bacon, waiting for the man who first made bandanna headbands hot. And we waited. And waited. Finally, at 1:30 a.m., two and a half hours after the start time, Rose started with "You're Crazy." Though our friends had already left, ("they aren't the Beatles!"), we toughed it out. And then it was 3 a.m., our eyes were burning, and we were pretty sure that Paradise City was going to be stuck in our heads on repeat for the next week. And that's a good thing.
