Gucci Releases An Eco-Friendly Line Of Plastic Flats

gucci
Spurred by the Copenhagen Fashion Summit (which sets expectations and frames the conversation regarding fashion and sustainability each year), Gucci is coming out with an eco-friendly line of flats, designed by its creative director, Frida Giannini.
Coming in three colors and made of biodegradable plastic (much like the kind that green brand Melissa uses), the flats come in one women's style and one men's option. While the endeavor doesn't go as far as say, Stella McCartney, who uses sustainable, ethical materials for every single part of each of her designs, it's still a step forward. There's no word yet as to whether or not Gucci is planning to pursue any green initiative beyond this one, but it's important to note that what Sustainable Soles does do is offer another luxury, eco-friendly option in what's a dismally threadbare market. And that's is a good thing in our books.
The shoes will be available this June online and in Gucci stores. (Harper's Bazaar UK)
