A 7-Step Process For Falling In Love With The New Gucci

It's only been six months since Alessandro Michele took the reigns at Gucci. And in that time, the perception of the brand has shifted from lukewarm respect to straight-up fanaticism. In reviewing the fall 2015 show, I expressed some disappointment at Michele's mastery of fit and his heavy reliance on nostalgia, but it's clear now that there were plenty other moments to grasp onto.

Flattering showpiece items (this silk georgette dress, or one directly inspired by it, hangs in many a fashion editor's closet) strut alongside more affordable accessories, like jewelry and hats primed to amp up any thrifted outfits they're paired with. And then there were the instant classics, the eBay-able must-haves.

It's that last category that makes Michele a special kind of designer, especially for one who's helming a centuries-old heritage brand. He's about shining up old styles, mashing them up in clever ways, and convincing you that you actually love something that you felt tepid about before. He piles things on, gives you more than you think you need, and in turn, gives you an opportunity to fall hard for at least one of his thoughtful details. Zoom lens, required.

With 66 looks each paired with at least a dozen extra accessories, there was a lot to take in. Here are seven moments you might have missed while experiencing the show online or through Instagram — just try and ignore that pull.

Those ruffles and bow aren't quite what they look like. Lined in black and speckled with sequins, they're a trompe l'oeil reproduction that made our eyes cross at first, then change into hearts.

Yes, those are dramatic press-ons, nail rings, and an abundance of costume jewelry. If there was anything to signal that delicate, stackable rings have some competition, this is it.

Short, squat, fat novelty ties for women? We can't say we've ever thought about them before (especially worn with '70s-style ruffled tuxedo shirts), but we likey.

Almond-toed platform heels haven't been in favor since the days of Paris Hilton. But if she could make herself over in 2015, so could these. The best part, though, is on the inside...

The Gucci "Feline" isn't as notorious as its lion or snake, but it's always been a part of the brand's fauna fam. We're stoked to see those little ears pop up in more places.
