Inside R29: The Beat Goes On

Looking at our signature columns like This Is Our Jam, 3 Shows To Catch, and our copious concert coverage, you might have noticed that we take our tunage pretty seriously around here. Whether it's the latest from Lana Del Rey, the soundtrack to Dirty Dancing (you know who you are), or brand-new Kpop that we're rocking out to at our desks, a quick scan of our Cooper Square digs proves that when it comes to headphones, we like em' big and loud. And, while it's ultimately the sound quality that counts, we're happy to say that our 'phones happen to be super-stylish while still delivering the beats. So, if you're interested in amping up your audio experience, just click through to get some sartorial sound inspiration. How do you like that alliteration?

10 Animal Sweaters To Start Your Own Zoo

Who knew that one day you'd again be looking for sweaters with fuzzy images of cats, dogs, and other squee-inducing critters? But fear not, the offerings for adults are a little less kitties-and-rainbows and a bit more tongue-in-cheek.

Givenchy started the craze with its panthers and Dobermans, but hipsters were already wiping thrift stores clean of sweaters emblazoned with wolf portraits cast in a "vintage" Thomas Kinkade haze. Today, the sweaters on the market are a little less cheesy, a little less try-hard, but just as fun. Whether you're into foxes, peacocks, or even raccoons, there's an animal sweater out there for you — come find it!

Inside R29: Orange You Glad It's Friday?

'Scuse us for the cheesy headline, but it's felt like Friday since Monday, so we've been waking ourselves up by sporting a bit of citrus. Call it what you will: tangerine, clementine, red-yellow, or just plain orange, but this shade is back in a big way, and this week, our staff proved it.

Sure, it'll get even more popular in spring (when we're tan, ahhh!) but that hasn't stopped us from kicking off the trend, early (as we like to do). Whether you go bold with a bright coat, or reign it in with just a pop of color on a scarf, rocking a vivid piece is a great way to warm up this winter. Here are six ways we did just that.

Serena van der Woodsen Inspires Us To Embrace The Clip On

If anyone could prove to us that clip-on earrings can be chic and ageless, of course it would be (sometimes) queen bee Serena van der Woodsen. Both IRL Blake Lively and her Gossip Girl persona have been spotted sporting the post-free ear gems in all shapes and sizes, all around town, lately.

It's official: clip-on earrings are not just something you you rifle past in your great grandmother's jewelry box anymore. Thanks to our new-found inspiration, we've rounded up a few amazing and pain-free alternatives to everyone's favorite face-framing accessory. For all the girls out there feeling the pressure to pierce, have no fear, we've got your back...xoxo.

Get Those Digits: Wear Your Rings Mid-Finger!

Send-the-trend

We've been spotting a subtle trend all over the streets in NYC and on the blogosphere, and now it's time to really blow this one up: Wearing thin, delicate rings mid-finger is the newest way to deck out your digits. This is a smart way to recycle rings that don't fit anymore or to wear tiny vintage rings that are too pretty to pass up. We like the look of wearing one on each finger for an update on the knuckle duster, or keeping it simple with just a bare-boned circlet. Have you tried the look out for yourself already? Include a pic in the comments and share the inspiration!

Put Out Your Feelers For Bug-Inspired Jewelry

Why is it that bugs are so blech when you encounter them in person, but so compelling as brass, bejeweled, blingy baubles? Dragonflies, butterflies, and ladybugs might have adorned our barrettes when we were younger, but the grown-up versions of insect-inspired jewels bring more sinister crawlers into the mix, with beautifully shining beetles, scarabs, winged water bugs, and ants. Click through for the bug jewelry that we find so cool in all of its creepiness!

Our Predictions For What's Gonna Be Huge In 2012

In the past few years, we've placed bets on nail art, maxi skirts, sheer shirts, ombre hair, whimsical prints, cat-eye glasses, clogs, pajama dressing, and thick braids… and voilà! Those things all had their major moments. For 2012, we're going to gaze into that crystal ball once more and make our predictions for what the upcoming year holds. Looking back, 2011 was a volatile year for fashion, and we think that 2012 will be even more dynamic, with more risks, more throwbacks, and more unconventional silhouettes to shake up the status quo. And if you find any of these trends strange, just remember — most of you thought nail art was tacky the first time we reported on it. Just sayin'.

Free People's Grunge Lookbook Is A Guide To '90s Style: Are You In?

The end of 2011 has found us shuffling through our closets, searching for that denim jacket that might be a bit too shrunken, and holey jeans that we usually reserve for weekend remodeling projects. However, we're not going to blame the entire trip down memory lane on Lisbeth Salander — Lagerfeld wasn't messing around either, when he featured dreadlocks on the models for his Paris-Bombay Métiers d'Art collection.

However, when the Free People December lookbook arrived, it supplied us with a fresh wave of nostalgia for the '90s, in the form of cropped tops, overalls, distressed vegan leather jackets, and flannels that double as, um, waist accessories. While we're on board for this laid-back, cool-kid, Jordan Catalano-obsessed revival, we're also not sure we're ready to participate in a total grunge fest — after all, there was a reason why we stopped rockin' the frayed shorts (and forgive us for not lining up to partake in Karl's dreaded trend). Check out the following nine ways to go grunge this season and let us know if you're all in, if it's way over the top, or if you're planning to find a happy medium.

10 Trends We Hope To NEVER See Again

We know that New Year's resolutions are difficult to keep, but we found 10 bad habits that won't be quite as hard to kick. While trends obviously come and go, and what's in today may be auf tomorrow (right, Heidi?), there are some repeat offenders from years gone by that we simply don't have any interest in ever seeing again. We're talking about the looks that we're relegating to the no-comeback zone for 2012 and beyond.

You may disagree — and sure, we may have even tried to rock a few of these no-nos ourself — but, if you're ready, let's all say a big final "farewell, old friend!" to a few trends that, to be honest, were never all that friendly.

Inside R29: Go Bold Or Go Home

Okay, so that may have sounded a little dramatic. But this week we were all hopped up on our color juice and weren't afraid to show it. From bright-red turtleneck sweaters, to cobalt-blue hoodies, to yellow slickers, our vibrant garb had us looking bright while staying warm. And, yes, maybe when you put us all together we're a bit of a Crayola pack, but hey, we'll take it, color-blocking's in!
