When we meet someone who runs her own business and has styled everyone from French chanteuse Yelle to crooner Gavin DeGraw — all while looking like a model herself — we can't help but feel a little jealous. But, those impressive creds belong to the delightful Erica Lavelanet of the addictive fashion blog and styling biz The Fashion Philosophy (TFP), and she won us over immediately.

Lavelanet curates looks for music videos, album covers, editorial shoots, and indie films. “I love working with bands and artists,” she says. “It’s really incredible to help someone represent themselves to the world through what they’re wearing.”

When she’s not on set with rising artists, she's sharing her own fierce-meets-femme looks on her blog with her fans — us included. So, to indulge our style swooning, we tasked Lavelanet with creating eight summer outfits using pieces from T.J.Maxx. Ahead, find music-stylist-approved looks that you can afford — even if you don't have a Billboard hit.

The Scene: Sipping on refreshing rosé
    Her Must-Have Piece: High-waisted shorts

Sunday Funday gets a major upgrade when you switch from beer gardens to vineyards. Naturally, your wardrobe should get a boost, too. “I love anything high-waisted — it’s so on trend,” says Lavelanet. “High-waisted shorts are perfect for an event that’s a step above casual. Whether you pair them with a crop top or tucked-in tank or blouse, they’ll look chic and appropriate.”

“A high-waisted cut is meant to show off your middle,” says Lavelanet. “The shorts should sit at your natural waist. Pick a pair that’s long enough for you to feel comfortable in, so you won’t be tugging them down.”

The Scene: Sun salutations in the park
    Her Must-Have Piece: Cropped leggings

Working out is always better with a view, right? “I love to do yoga outdoors — I’ll do it in the park, on my rooftop by myself, on the beach if I’m on a family vacation…wherever!” says Lavelanet. But, you want to look as good strolling the sidewalk as you do in your warrior pose. “These calf-length leggings are made for going straight from walking around to actually exercising."

The playful black-and-white stripes go with any top (we always support a neon sports bra). And, "the solid black stripes along the side elongate your legs, even if you're short like me!” says Lavelanet.

The Scene: Hosting an at-home soiree
Her Must-Have Piece: The drapey dress

Whether you're hosting a low-key wine night or a full-on dinner party, you want to be comfortable enough to pull off all the behind-the-scenes work without skimping on style. This gauzy dress — in a very of-the-moment mint — can be as dressy or casual as you make it, and the airy fabric is a dream to move around in. “My personal style is very edgy-meets-feminine," says Lavelanet. "I love the idea of sheer layers paired with a leather moto jacket or chunky wedges."
