Your Fave Trader Joe’s Chicken Sausage Just Got Recalled

Photography by: Liz Clayman.

Usually,
food recalls feel very far away because they're not necessarily products that I purchase.
However, with today’s big recall of Al Fresco chicken sausage, I am seriously a little upset. According to Food Safety News, Kayem Foods is recalling 59,203 pounds of its chicken sausage products
that — wait for it — may be contaminated
with plastic.
Specifically, they are recalling 12-oz packages of Trader
Joe's brand Sweet Apple Chicken Sausage and 8-oz packages of Al
Fresco brand Apple Maple Fully Cooked Breakfast Sausage. If you have either
of these products and they have an establishment number of P7839, you need to punt
them back to the company or get rid of them, ASAP.

While no one has reported
injury or illness from the plastic pieces, I am still not thrilled by the idea
of plastic floating around in my system. But, now that I think about it, I guess it's not that different from the time I swallowed one of Barbie's pink high heeled shoes, but that was a deliberate choice and also a dare! I, for one, am going to go home and discard my sweet apple chicken sausage. Maybe I'll take this as an opportunity to focus on
some Muesli breakfasts
for a while.
