If you don't know BANKS yet, it's about time you got yourself well-acquainted with her unique bedroom-pop kind of cool. She stopped by BBC Live Lounge yesterday, which, if you aren't aware, has its guests cover other famous people's music. And, out of no where, BANKS ran up and down Aaliyah's "Are You That Somebody."
Now, don't get us wrong here — Aaliyah was a fabulous musician. Though her pipes weren't earth-shattering, her vocal delivery always went down like some sort of spiked honey — smooth with a bite. BANKS has the pipes and Aaliyah's delivery down pat. Her acoustic cover of 1998's "Are You That Somebody" is aural perfection. Who would have thought Aaliyah's slinky bass-heavy production would translate so seamlessly to acoustic guitar? We sure as heck did not, but we're beside ourselves that it happened.
