Model, actress, swimwear designer — that's a pretty impressive résumé on its own, but then Elizabeth Hurley goes and outdoes herself by being a strong advocate for breast cancer awareness and research. In support of The Estée Lauder Companies Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign, Hurley packs in countless personal appearances, passionate speeches, and plenty of social-media savvy each October. Her goal: to keep highlighting the importance of screenings, treatment, research, and a cure.
Given the prominence of pink each October, it's difficult to remember that decades ago, almost nobody was talking about breast cancer. Now, we're all more aware, so The BCA Campaign's aim is to transform awareness into action...and that includes raising funds. Those pink-ribbon products that Hurley supports add up to a whole lot of money — $48 million since 1992. ("Thirty-eight million dollars of which has funded 152 Breast Cancer Research Foundation research projects worldwide in the past 20 years," Hurley proudly notes.)
We met up with Hurley to get her take on the state of BCA today — and to learn why it's a cause so personally meaningful.
