As if the 2D Ed Hardy skulls didn't give you enough of a headache, the bedazzled sailor-tattoo brand is now launching a his-and-hers duo of fragrances housed in black-and-white skulls, complete with a fabric flower stuck between their choppers.
The history of that particular skull tattoo is actually an interesting one: Ed Hardy learned that distinctive hula-girl-and-flask-of-booze American sailor-tattoo style from famed artist (and sailor) Jerry Collins. He then incorporated Japanese techniques into that style of art, drawing from the time he had spent apprenticing in Japan.
However, whatever happened between Ed Hardy's artwork and Christian Audigier's sparkly T-shirts, made that skulls-and-roses look one we just can't get on board with. For one thing, it's been adopted by those whose closest connection to danger and the open seas is a hot tub with a faulty jet. However, for those who appreciate Hardy's more commercial endeavors, you can pick up a bottle of the "warm and sugary" scent for ladies and the "fresh and ozonic" scent for dudes, in September. (WWD)
