Derek Lam Sends A Cease And Desist To Ivanka Trump Over Platform Shoe

Cheapie shoe lines with dozens of styles each season don't necessarily have the cadre of creative brains behind the brands to pump out original, inspiring shoe after another. Instead of scaling back and thinking smarter, many unfortunately turn to high-end designers who do have the creative resources, and knock the designs off so that they're not quite exact copies, but still fairly uncanny. Seems like Ivanka Trump's shoe line didn't deviate far enough, since Derek Lam is sending a cease and desist for her "Cadie" wedge sandal (top shoe in the photo). Says CEO of Derek Lam, Jan-Hendrik Schlottmann, "We have seen similar copies before, but we have never seen a shoe that perfectly copied." Ivanka's shoe costs $150 while Lam's is $780. To be fair to Ivanka, her shoe brand is part of a licensing company, so, like Lam said, "I'm sure Ms. Trump doesn't know her wedge is a copy." (WWD)
