"I share an invite-only hair and makeup studio with close friends called Only Child. I also do hair for commercials, print, and music videos. And I have a column on Opening Ceremony's website called 'Hairstyle File.'"
What were your first pair of jeans?
"Probably the first pair of jeans I felt awesome in were a pair of Palmetto jeans. They were the poor man's version of Guess... And also Bongo jeans...both with a very light wash and both in the late '80s. It's important to know I was in middle school."
What are you wearing?
"This is my favorite dress right now. I got it at the Claudie Pierlot store in Paris, and this ELI denim jacket I bought at the Chelsea Flea Market. I have probably worn it every day since I found it. I love it because it's almost like a shirt, as well. I love layering it. I'll even wear it under a big sweater or my favorite leather jacket."
How many pairs of jeans do you own?
"It's funny because my first job when I moved to New York was at What Goes Around Comes Around selling vintage denim, but at that time I wore a high-wasted bootcut style, so I had a closet full of jeans. Ten years later, I literally have one pair of jeans and they're light-washed, cropped Claudie Pierlots. Now, I love anything made of denim — skorts, purses, scrunchies, etc. — but denim jackets are always there for you when you need them."
Do you have a preferred philosophy when it comes to jeans: Sexy and skinny, or loose and comfy?
"Faded in the right places and tight in the sexy spaces."
Used or new?
"I think I just like being open to either, but my favorite pieces always have a little unknown history."
What's your signature wash...or does it matter?
"I like faded. Faded black is always cool, too."
What's your favorite way to wear your jeans and with what?
"I love jeans with just a simple striped top. Your jeans should say enough to carry your look."
If your jeans had a name or theme song, what would it be? Or do they?
"'California Dreamin'' by The Mamas & The Papas."
Favorite example of celebrity-jean wearing (i.e., Bruce Springsteen's Born in the USA album cover).
"Jane Birkin has always had the perfect pair of jeans, and has worn them well from the '60s to the present."
What do you love most about your favorite denim pieces?
"The best denim never goes out of style; it just gets better with age — holes and all."
