Say it with us now: festival season. Has a more beautiful and excitement-inducing phrase ever been uttered? Every year we await this magical time with all the anticipation of a kid on Christmas morning — after all, Coachella is basically the adult version of Christmas, no? We're sure you've all spent countless hours poring over the lineup and putting together your dream schedules (Outkast? Check! Haim? Check! Pharrell? Check!), but we want to remind you that the festival isn't all about the music. We're going to help you turn your journey to the desert into a full-fledged getaway, complete with shopping, pampering, and tons of sipping and snacking.
As such, our trusty R29 editors have put together a handy-dandy guide to the Southland area — including our favorite stops in Los Angeles, Palm Springs, and even a few in between. After all, a well-rounded vacay is the best kind. Now, bust out your backpack and your wristband and get to the fun.

It's called sustenance, people. No festival trip can be done on an empty stomach. You've got a long weekend ahead of you, so fill up on a cheeseburger and fries (animal style, duh!). We recommend hitting the outpost right next to LAX — after all, we know that airplane food leaves more than a little something to be desired.

Warm and sunny weather means sandals, and sandals mean only one thing: pedicures. You'll want to get the requisite mani/pedi out of the way before you get to Palm Springs, and a little R&R before a few sleepless nights is never a bad thing. This nail spot is upscale but not overpriced, and the central Bev Hills locale is easy on the gas tank. We recommend splurging for the gel polish, so that you don't have to worry about chipping while you're getting your groove on.

Detox to Retox is the name of the game here. Get your immune system in shape for the inevitable beat down it's going to take over the weekend. Getting some nutrients in your system will make you feel better about all the booze and late-night munchies you'll be indulging in during the days to come. Plus, Pressed's many locations mean you can swing by at any time of day.

Is the phrase "famous for strawberry date shakes" enough for you? The trip to Palm Springs isn't excruciatingly long, but we're willing to bet you're going to be hankering for a frosty cool trip about halfway through. Angelenos know that no drive to the desert is complete without a stop at this adorable store, which also offers snacks and knickknacks for you dairy-averse folks.

When one goes to Coachella, the Instagram stakes are exceedingly high. You're going to want to conduct some #selfie warmups, so why not do so at a real-life Land Before Time? This collection of roadside life-size dinosaurs is cheesy, sure, but that's half the fun. It's a great chance to stretch your legs and your camera skills.

You're never going to make it through this marathon weekend without a little fuel. Never. This is our favorite java spot in the desert — it's probably going to be packed, but anything for a caffeine fix, right? One sip of an iced coffee and you'll forget all about the line.

We highly recommend stopping here for some well-deserved brunch, either to soak up last night's debauchery or for some grub on your way out of town. We consider it the best brunch in Palm Springs — the fresher-than-fresh menu switches up weekly. Don't forget to order a Spicy Bloody Mary because, hey, when in Rome!

If you find yourself jonesing for a little break from the sun-booze-tunes cycle of the weekend, look no further than this awesome vintage shop. It's never a bad time to add to your wardrobe, and you are on vacation after all. Just make sure there's room in your suitcase for all your new duds!
