How To Wear Leggings & Not Look Lazy

Leggings are our loungewear of choice at home. But, just because something is comfy doesn’t mean it can’t also be practical (and polished) enough to wear in public. So, we're giving our leggings a spring update, pairing the cozy-girl staple with fancy shirtdresses and blouses. And, voila: leggings that are appropriate for work, date night, and beyond. Plus, they're a key layering piece — until it's warm enough to go bare-legged again, that is. (Who are we kidding? We'll probably continue wearing them regardless of the season.) We think you'll agree: The five outfits below are anything but lazy. Classic, Black Leggings
Why would you wait until 65-degree weather to wear your springy shirtdress? Layer your leggings underneath. Add a printed crossbody and oxfords, and you'll even be ready to head to the office.

Sporty Leggings
Many people reserve their leggings for lazy days at home — or active days at the gym. But, your sporty pair can totally pull double-duty off the elliptical. Team them with an oversized sweater and sneakers for a put-together outfit that will garner compliments at brunch and function well for running errands.
Faux-Leather Leggings
Take your leggings for a night out at your local watering hole. You can style these faux-leather ones any number of ways, but we're particular fans of the sheer-blouse-and-bra combination shown here.
Printed Leggings
Printed leggings can feel like a lot of look; the key is to balance them out with muted colors. Layered under a long tunic, Marc Jacobs' playful design will show just enough. (If you're feeling daring, you always can wear them with the matching dress and clutch.)
Marbled Leggings
This pattern is fairly subtle, so it will mix well with other, louder prints — like a tropical backpack. Even if you go full-on loungewear and pair these with a hoodie, they'll still look refined.
