The Block Is Hot! Friday Night's Double-Dose Of 'Hood Parties

Your excuse to stay home this Friday night just the flew the coop, homebodies! Both of the best shopping strips in the city are rejoicing their own awesomeness with two killer block parties. Whether you’re loyal to the Mission’s sartorial hot spots or Hayes Valley’s dreamy boutiques, this roundup of must-hit bashes celebrates the best of both worlds 'hoods. Peruse the lineup, jot down the deets, and save that Netflix marathon for another day.
Mission Block Party
The “gorgeous little things” this 16th Street staple is known to carry can be snagged up at 10% off. Seal the deals with some shaken or stirred holiday-inspired cocktails the shop will be concocting, and the two live performances of folky tunes.
When: Friday, December 7, 6 to 9 p.m.
Where: BellJar, 3187 16th Street (at Guerrero Street); 415-626-1749.
Benny Gold
The graphic designer and skater that turned fashion designer is dishing out 15% off his paper-plane-clad urban wares, and the shop will be handing out brewskies to put the “party” in block party.
When: Friday, December 7, 5 to 9 p.m.
Where: Benny Gold, 3169 16th Street (at Guerrero Street); 415-814-3940.
We don’t know what to grab first: The overflowing glasses of bubbly or the print-tastic frocks, cardis, and more going out the door for 20% off. Fortunately, either option will keep us plenty satisfied for the night.
When: Friday, December 7, 6 to 9 p.m.
Where: Dema, 1038 Valencia Street (at 21st Street); 415-206-0500.
The Mission destination to get pampered at is treating our wallets just as nice by offering 25% off all merch for the entire day. Then, later on, the cosmetic duo behind Fox and Doll will be there for an exclusive trunk show filled with not just makeup, but glitzy bips and bops, too.
When: Friday, December 7, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Where: Glama-Rama, 304 Valencia Street (at 14th Street); 415-861-4526.
Mira Mira
To ensure we look stunning for the entire night, Mira Mira is hosting S.F.’s first-ever beauty truck, Pretty Parlor, which will be stationed in front of the shop to provide a holiday glow to our mugs. Plus, keep warm with some glasses of hot holiday cocktails.
When: Friday, December 7, 6 to 9 p.m.
Where: Mira Mira, 3292 22nd Street (at Valencia Street); 648-6513.

Hayes Block Party
Warm up those pipes for Azalea’s karaoke contest, where the best crooner sings his or her heart out for a high-pitch-worthy $500 gift card! Now that’s the kind of tune we like to hear! Bonus points if you sing a Beyoncé ballad, well, at least to us. Whether you win or lose, top off the night by clinking some PBR cans.
When: Friday, December 7, 6 to 9 p.m.
Where: Azalea, 411 Hayes Street (at Gough Street); 415-861-9888.
This stylish Hayes Valley boutique is inviting a few of its local designer friends to the party, including The Podolls, Kathryn McCarron, and Giovanna Torrico, for us to snag the Bay Area-made threads. The store’s usual merch will bare sliced price tags at 20% off (excluding jewelry and denim, womp). Toast to your savings with libations and nibbles.
When: Friday, December 7, 5 to 8 p.m.
Where: Dish Boutique, 541 Hayes Street (between Octavia and Laguna streets); 415-252-5997.
Welcome Stranger
While most discounts are dedicated for the forgotten sale section, Welcome Stranger is offering 15% off all new gear and pouring gin and tonics to sweeten the deal.
When: Friday, December 7, 6 to 9 p.m.
Where: Welcome Stranger, 460 Gough Street (between Grove and Hayes streets); 415-864-2079.
Rand and Statler
Like Welcome Stranger, Rand + Statler will also be letting us get in on its new merch at 15% off. But unlike other shops, we can purchase some of Hello! Lucky’s adorable stationery (like the San Francisco holiday cards!), as it’ll be on the scene for an exclusive pop-up shop. Bottles of white wine will also be a-flowin’.
When: Friday, December 7, 6 to 9 p.m.
Where: Rand + Statler, 425 Hayes Street (at Gough Street); 415-634-0881.
At Reliquary, we can shake off that over-spending guilt because every purchase of $150 or more grants us a penny-saving 15% off discount on the entire sale. Talk about our saving’s grace! And if that awesome deal doesn’t give you the warm and fuzzies already, the spiked cider certainly will do the trick.
When: Friday, December 7, 5 to 9 p.m.
Where: Reliquary, 527 Octavia Street (between Hayes and Grove streets); 415-431-4000.
