birth-control-pill Considering the fact that the pill is over 50 years old, it's actually a bit surprising how central the conversation around birth control has been, lately. And more importantly, despite the fact that 99% of women in the U.S. use some form of birth control, there is still quite a bit that the average woman doesn't know about her birth control. To make matters worse, with all of the conjecture currently being thrown around in the debate over women's reproductive rights, birth control, and Obamacare, there is actually a lot of misleading information floating around.

So, we went to the experts — Dr. Jonathan Lanskowsky, M.D., FACOG and Dr. Ruth Lesnewski, M.D., education director of the Reproductive Health Access Project — to clear up the confusion. Read on to learn the different options available to you, the pros and cons of each, the truth about some of the common misconceptions surrounding birth control, and why everyone in Washington D.C. seems to feel the need to regulate your uterus.
