But, we've got proof to the contrary: You could land yourself a trusty summer essential — the kind you wear over and over, and only remove for laundering (we'd hope). We asked Rank & Style to hunt down the best basic, beach-ready tank top we could possibly buy. Once again, Free People came out on top.

    According to Rank & Style's findings — based on popularity, editor picks, and, specifically in this case, user reviews — the winner is Free People's Long Beach tank. Though it does not look like anything super special at first glance, just a nice, higher-necked, slinky tank, the results tell us what a picture can't: that lots of other folks have tried and loved the simple, $20 style and can vouch for its awesomeness. Think of this as a strong suggestion for what to do with your next Andrew Jackson, and which pricier tops may not be worth the dough.
