Alimay Events — an NYC-based event production company founded by two former glossy-vets, Ali Schajer and and Maya Katz — specializes in organizing pure chaos. So, who better to call upon with our most challenging wedding etiquette queries?
As a bride, you never want to be upstaged at your wedding. It’s why bridesmaids dresses are (usually) so dang ugly and why wearing white is simply off-limits for everyone on the guest list. But there’s one element of the big day’s events, however, that you shouldn’t mind being a spotlight-stealer: the cake. Attendees probably won’t remember the Maine lobster appetizer, or the gorgeous flowers in your centerpieces, no matter how tasty and / or beautiful they were.

But if you have the right cake, they’ll be talking about your towering confection for years to come. (Not to mention how stunning you looked while wielding a gigantic knife during the cake-cutting ceremony.) Thankfully there is a growing community of cake designers who are as much artistes as they are top-notch bakers. The proof is in this roundup of edible beauties. From gravity-defying tiers to mind-blowing sugar-flower sculptures, these custom creations run the gamut of just how gorgeous (and delicious!) a wedding cake can be. Forks up!
